15 Years Since Naruto Anime Aired, It’s Still The Most Popular Anime Worldwide

Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, Tokyo Revengers and many more series got popular over the years among anime fans, but once these anime series ended, the popularity of the series slowly started to decline. However, there is one anime series that has gotten more and more popular, even after it finished airing, Naruto’s fan base just keeps growing. Even the iconic anime franchise, Dragon Ball is no where near the Naruto anime series.

Broadband Choices recently gathered data from Google on what is the most popular anime series worldwide (they looked at the most searched shows in 146 countries). Naruto is the most popular anime in 93 countries. Pokemon is most popular anime franchise in 16 countries.

Most popular anime with respect to search volume is also Naruto. 16.2% of all the anime related searches are related to Naruto franchise.

The second place is held by Pokemon, with 8.8% of global searches it is no where close to the fan favourite ninja anime. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (7.8%), Jujutsu Kaisen (7.3%), and One Piece (7.2%) are on third, fourth and fifth place respectively, leapfrogging Attack on Titan that slipped to sixth place with 5.2% of searches.

Naruto anime is based on a manga series of the same name, written and drawn by Masashi Kishimoto. Naruto manga was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1999. The series ended after 15 years in 2014. Studio Pierrot picked up the manga for an anime adaptation. After releasing 220 episodes of Naruto, and 500 episodes of Naruto Shippuden, the anime series ended in 2017. It is one of the best selling manga in history with more than 250 million copies sold worldwide.
