A Change.org petition calling for the release of the extended Caitlyn and Vi love scene in Arcane Season 2 has hit 17,000 signatures and counting.
If you’re caught up on Season 2, you’ll know exactly which scene we’re talking about: the jail cell sequence in Episode 8. To refresh your memory, this is the scene where Vi is dealing with the fallout of Jinx’s chaos (as usual), and Caitlyn finally confronts her.
It’s a pivotal moment—both emotionally and narratively—where their connection solidifies after all the back-and-forth since Season 1.
Now, according to co-creator Christian Linke, this moment was originally intended to be longer and more… intimate.
But due to concerns about crossing into R-rated territory, the scene was “dialed back.” Translation? We didn’t get the full emotional (or romantic) payoff that the creators had originally envisioned.
During a live stream with League of Legends content creator Necrit94, Linke confirmed the scene was cut down, joking that the full version might be sitting on a “French hard drive somewhere.”
The petition started on November 26, 2024, and quickly went viral after a tweet about it blew up on X (formerly Twitter, for those who refuse to use Musk’s rebrand).
As of today, it’s surpassed 17,000 signatures and continues to climb. The description is clear and respectful, calling on Netflix and Riot to release the uncut version for fans who “cherish these characters and their journey.”
Arcane season 2 was censored in China, cutting out many of the intimate scenes between Caitlyn and Vi.
It’s worth noting that fan petitions for extended cuts aren’t exactly a new phenomenon. The Snyder Cut campaign for Justice League set the standard for how far fans can go to demand creative transparency—and Arcane fans clearly learned from that playbook.
While the petition shows how passionate the fanbase is, there’s no guarantee Netflix or Riot will cave to the pressure.
Unlike the Snyder Cut, which had already been mostly completed, it’s unclear if the extended Caitlyn and Vi scene was ever fully polished or if it even exists in a form suitable for release. It’s also possible that contractual agreements or internal policies could prevent this from happening.
There’s also the question of why the scene was cut in the first place. Linke has hinted that the decision wasn’t entirely in the hands of the creative team. Was it Netflix? Riot? Both? Without clearer answers, fans are left speculating.
