The Blue Box anime adaptation continues to gain momentum as it gears up for its second cour, set to premiere on January 2, 2025, exclusively on Netflix.
Based on Kouji Miura’s manga serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump since April 12, 2021, the anime adapts the blend of sports and romance that has garnered a steady fanbase since its debut.
Main Trailer and Key Visual
Unveiled during Jump Festa 2025, the main trailer for the second cour provides a closer look at the characters’ emotional and athletic journeys. Chinatsu Kano, determined to qualify for the Inter-High, and Taiki Inomata, striving to improve his badminton performance, take center stage in the new footage.
The visuals also highlight new dynamics, particularly with the introduction of Ayame Moriya, a classmate who brings additional layers to the story.
The second key visual, also released during the event, features an evocative composition of Chinatsu and Hina Chono, both depicted with resolute gazes, while Ayame makes her debut beside Taiki. The artwork emphasizes the interpersonal and internal struggles that have become hallmarks of the series.
New Cast Announcement
Ayame Moriya, who is connected to key characters like Chinatsu and Haryu through familial and social ties, will be voiced by Kana Ichinose. Known for her previous roles in Darling in the Franxx and Made in Abyss, Ichinose brings experience in portraying nuanced, layered characters.
Her comments highlight the joy of portraying Ayame’s lively and multifaceted personality, which is expected to shake up the dynamics within the story.
Theme Songs for the Second Cour
Opening Theme: “Sarabaa” by Macaroni Empitsu. The band’s frontman, Hattori, shared that the song was crafted to resonate with the youthful energy and challenges faced by the characters. The collaboration marks another high-profile contribution to anime soundtracks by the band, known for its introspective yet vibrant musical style.
Ending Theme: “Contrast” by TOMOO. The solo artist revealed that crafting “Contrast” was an emotional journey, as the song draws from the subtle mutual respect and support shared among the characters. This layered storytelling through music aligns well with Blue Box’s overarching themes of growth and connection.
Since its announcement in November 2023, Blue Box has steadily built anticipation. The first cour premiered in October 2024, earning praise for its faithful adaptation of Miura’s artwork and the delicate balance of romance and sports.
Telecom Animation Film, known for Tower of God and Lupin the Third: Part 5, continues to handle animation, with Yuichiro Yano at the helm as director. Netflix describes the series as:
