Gachiakuta Manga Review: A Keepsake for Fire Force Fans

If you’re a fan of Atsushi Ookubo’s works, the famous author behind the classic hit shounen manga Fire Force and Soul Eater, Gachiakuta is a must-read for shounen fans.

Before Gachiakuta’s serialization, Kei Urana, the author of the series, was employed as an assistant to Ookubo for his last project, Fire Force, before he designated her as his successor.

She initially garnered recognition as a mangaka with her one-shot manga Shikidou, which claimed first prize in the 103rd Newcomer Manga Award organized by Shonen Magazine. After covering the background of the series, let’s transition to the primary subject.

What is Gachiakuta Manga About?

Whenever you start a new manga you need something called the “it” factor which can catch your attention. This factor can either be the art, the plot, or the cast, but Gachiakuta does all of these things right with its art, embracing similarities to Ookubo sensei’s art style.

One of the best qualities of the series is its unique art style, captivating plot setting, and action-packed narrative filled with characters possessing unique abilities, similar to Soul Eater.

As we move to its story, Gachiakuta is about Rudo and his foster father Legto, who live in the slums of a wealthy town. Rudo despises the wastefulness of the upper class and regularly searches through the town’s garbage for anything useful or valuable.

However, his biological father was thrown into the “Abyss”, a massive hole where anything considered trash is dumped after being accused of murder.

While Rudo is under attack by a pack of monsters, a man named Enjin helps him. Enjin, who identifies as a “janitor,” employs special weapons known as “jinkis” to battle these creatures.

To fight like Enjin, his savior, Rudo becomes a janitor himself, albeit unwillingly, to seek retribution against Legto’s killer and to emerge from the Abyss by force.

Even though it shares some similarities with Ookubo’s creations, Gachiakuta can independently captivate its audience thanks to its appealing characters and distinct power system, and Kei Uruna sensei sure loves to make her characters stand out.

The series has a freedom that keeps it interesting and makes sense within the story. In the end, It never gets boring or feels stuck.
