Jujutsu Kaisen has officially claimed the title of the best-selling manga in Japan for 2024, and the numbers show just how significant its dominance has been.
According to Oricon, Jujutsu Kaisen sold an impressive 7.6 million copies, surpassing One Piece by over 2.3 million—a staggering margin considering One Piece’s legendary status and consistent performance over the decades. This victory cements Jujutsu Kaisen’s place as the reigning champion of contemporary shonen manga.
Here are the top 10 most sold manga of 2024 according to Oricon:
- Jujutsu Kaisen – 7,610,995
- One Piece – 5,250,210
- Frieren – 4,988,170
- The Apothecary Diaries – 4,723,562
- Blue Lock – 3,881,269
- Kaiju No. 8 – 3,398,326
- Kingdom – 3,234,204
- Haikyuu!! – 3,077,085
- My Hero Academia – 2,943,985
- Spy x Family – 2,662,408
It’s worth noting that Jujutsu Kaisen’s massive success in 2024 isn’t just about manga sales. The anime adaptation of the Shibuya Incident arc, widely regarded as one of the series’ most intense and impactful storylines, played a critical role.
The Fall 2023 anime season (which starts in October and ends in late December or early January) was dominated by discussions of Jujutsu Kaisen, and the manga’s continued high-quality storytelling ensured it retained its top spot.
Fans of the series have been praising Gege Akutami’s ability to balance intricate plots with emotionally charged character development, which clearly resonates with readers.
One Piece, on the other hand, had another strong year, selling 5.25 million copies. For most manga, this would be an achievement worth celebrating, but when you’re competing against Jujutsu Kaisen’s momentum, it’s hard not to feel the gap.
That said, One Piece has been experiencing a renewed surge of interest thanks to its Gear 5 reveal in the anime and the global success of Netflix’s live-action adaptation. While the series has been a staple in Oricon rankings for over a decade, this year’s results might highlight a generational shift in manga readership.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End and The Apothecary Diaries rounded out the top four with 4.98 million and 4.72 million copies sold, respectively. Both series benefited greatly from anime adaptations in Fall 2023, proving yet again how much of an impact a well-received adaptation can have.
Despite the dominance of the top four, some long-time staples still made their mark. Kingdom and Haikyuu!! held strong, each selling over 3 million copies, with Haikyuu!! seeing a renewed boost from its recent movie. Blue Lock, Kaiju No. 8, My Hero Academia, and Spy x Family also maintained solid performances, showing the staying power of these modern hits. Yet, one absence looms large: Dandadan.
Where is Dandadan in Oricon’s List?
For many fans, the lack of Dandadan on this list is the biggest disappointment. Its ongoing anime adaptation has been widely praised, earning significant buzz for its unique blend of humor, supernatural elements, and romance.
Despite this, it seems the series hasn’t translated that popularity into massive sales—at least not enough to crack the top ten. This has led to some speculation about whether the anime adaptation came too late (for this year) or if the manga’s appeal remains more niche than its social media presence might suggest.
