American rapper Megan Thee Stallion is well-known for her love of anime, and she’s not afraid to show it. Her latest song “Wanna Be”, a collaboration with rapper GloRilla, pays homage to the hugely popular anime series Attack on Titan.
In the song, Megan references the Female Titan character from Attack on Titan. At the 1:25 mark, she raps the lines: “I’m the female titan, I’m steppin’ on bitc*es, I’m showin’ my ti**ies, I tore up the city”.
This is a clear nod to the Female Titan’s role in the anime, where the character Annie transforms into a 14-meter tall naked Titan that wreaks havoc and destruction across the city.
Megan’s love for anime is no secret. At the GQ 2023 Men of the Year event, she was asked to rank her top five favorite anime series. Her list included My Hero Academia, Hunter x Hunter, Black Clover, Attack on Titan, and Jujutsu Kaisen.
While Attack on Titan may not be at the very top of her list, the series did recently air its final season, which could explain why it was fresh in Megan’s mind while writing her new song.
Anime fans were also treated to seeing Megan fully embrace her otaku side at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards earlier this year.
The rapper hosted the event while cosplaying as Bruno, a major character from the Jojo series. Her enthusiasm for the medium was on full display throughout the show.
For those unfamiliar, Attack on Titan is a dark fantasy anime adapted from the manga series of the same name by Hajime Isayama. It follows the story of Eren Yeager, a boy whose hometown is destroyed by massive, humanoid creatures called Titans.
After witnessing his mother get eaten by a Titan, Eren vows revenge against the monsters and joins the military to fight back against them. The critically-acclaimed anime wrapped up its final season this year. All episodes can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
