The author of Mushoku Tensei, Rifujin na Magonote, shared his thoughts on X about the words used in the recent Bocchi the Rock discussion. He cautioned that terms like “noise” and “exploitation” are often used on social media to attack things people dislike.

His point was that even if those words are not meant in a harsh way, when someone connected to the official production uses them, it can invite unnecessary controversy. In his words, these are “convenient words used on social media to bash things,” so creators should be careful because it can start arguments that no one needs.

This came after Bocchi the Rock scriptwriter Erika Yoshida explained why she changed or removed some scenes from the manga for the anime. She said the goal was to keep the show comfortable for families and to avoid sexualized moments with teen characters.
Examples she gave include changing a naked cold-bath gag to a swimsuit, cutting the scene where the girls compare their chest sizes, and avoiding unrealistic shots like a character’s chest bouncing while playing guitar. Yoshida said these parts would be “noise” that distracts from what Bocchi the Rock is about.
Rifujin’s comment was not a defense of fanservice at all costs. He was talking about word choice and how it shapes the conversation. When official staff use labels like “exploitation” or “noise,” it can make other creators or even the original manga look bad, which can quickly turn the discussion toxic online. His message was to choose words carefully.
Both sides are aiming for the same thing: a show that reaches more people. Yoshida wants the focus on Bocchi’s growth through music and friendship, without scenes that pull attention away. Rifujin wants creators to communicate that intent without language that triggers online pile-ons.
For readers who want quick context, Bocchi the Rock is a manga that began in 2018 and its TV anime aired in 2022. Mushoku Tensei started as a web novel in 2012 and later became a light novel and anime, with the first season airing in 2021 and more episodes following in 2023 and 2024.
