2025 has plenty of anime titles on the way, but one upcoming series is already getting a lot of attention for being… well, different. Please Put Them On, Takamin-san is probably the weirdest and most over-the-top anime of the year. And while it definitely has an audience, it’s not going to be for everyone.

Here’s a full breakdown of why this series has people talking before it even airs.
The Premise Is Just as Wild as It Sounds
At first, Please Put Them On, Takamin-san seems like your average high school rom-com. It follows Kōshi Shirada, a regular student, who accidentally finds out the student council president, Takamin, has a very unusual ability.
She can rewind time by taking off her underwear. Yes, that’s the actual setup. And it gets even weirder.
Because every time she uses that ability, she needs fresh underwear. That’s where Shirada comes in. He becomes her go-to guy for handing her new pairs, which creates one awkward situation after another. The entire thing leans heavily on suggestive comedy and fan service.
While the show doesn’t fully cross into ecchi territory, it’s definitely not playing it safe. A lot of the humor is focused on underwear-related moments, and it doesn’t hold back. If you’re okay with shows like High School DxD or Prison School, this is in that ballpark, just with more comedy and less intensity.
The Manga Had Mixed Reviews
The anime is based on the manga Put on Takamin-san, and reactions to it have been very split. It was nominated for the Next Manga Award, which shows it got some traction. But reviews haven’t been consistently great.
Anime News Network rated it 2 out of 5, calling the story weak but admitting the artwork delivered what fans of this kind of content want. Another review said similar stuff can be found elsewhere, without the weird setup.
Even so, the manga clearly connected with enough people to earn an adaptation.
Anime Comes Out April 2, 2025
The studio behind this project is LIDEN FILMS, known for Call of the Night and Tokyo Revengers. They’re familiar with handling shows that lean into edgy themes or unusual ideas.
The anime is directed by Timomachino, with the script handled by USAD. It airs in Japan on AT-X and Tokyo MX, and Crunchyroll has picked up streaming rights for international viewers.
Should You Watch It? It really depends on your taste. If you’re into silly, fan service-heavy comedies and don’t mind underwear being a central joke, this show might be something you’ll enjoy. But if you prefer serious character work, or if this kind of humor isn’t your thing, it might be one to skip.
This is a show built completely around one very odd idea, and your reaction to that idea will probably decide how much you enjoy it. In case you are looking for anime to watch this season (April 2025), here are the top 10 you do not want to miss out on.
