The second season of The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto) will commence broadcasting on January 10, 2025, at 23:40 JST, and is set to run for two consecutive cours (half a year) without interruption.
Crunchyroll will be streaming the second season. A newly released main trailer and key visual highlight the expanded scope of the season.
The opening theme, “Hyakka Ryouran,” will be performed by Ikuta Lira. This marks the first time Ikuta Lira has provided a TV anime opening as a solo artist.
Ikuta Lira stated that the track was crafted to convey the protagonist Maomao’s unpredictable charm, as well as the gleaming and elegant world of the imperial harem, including the mysterious incidents that occur within it.
A new cast member, Seto Asami, will join as Kosui, an outgoing and talkative maid with a strong interest in insects who appears with the coming of spring.
Seto Asami is known for Raphtalia in The Rising of the Shield Hero, and Mai Sakurajima in Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai. Check out the new visual featuring Kosui:
Seto Asami expressed enthusiasm for joining a series known for its distinctive historical setting, the intrigues of the rear palace, Maomao’s analytical approach, and the cool demeanor of Jinshi.
The franchise originated as a web novel in October 2011, later receiving its first printed light novel volume in August 2014. Since then, it has inspired two separate manga adaptations, both launched in 2017, one in May within Square Enix’s Monthly Big Gangan magazine and another in August within Shogakukan’s Monthly Sunday Gene-X magazine.
The anime adaptation was produced by TOHO Animation and animated by the studio OLM. It began airing in October 2023, and the upcoming second season looks to build on the story established in the first.
