Top 10 Highest-Rated Anime Series of Spring Season 2023

Another day dawns, and here we are, bidding farewell to yet another anime season. This Spring Anime Season was a bit different; the new anime series, Oshi no Ko, reached a popularity that we wouldn’t have thought possible. And, of course, Demon Slayer made an astounding return with its spectacular animation.

As always, fans have rated and ranked their favorite anime series on various platforms. The question that arises is: What were the top 10 highest-rated anime of the spring season? To determine this, we used ratings from MyAnimeList and AniList, two of the largest anime databases. Ratings from both websites were combined to reduce website bias as much as possible.

Now that the criteria for the ratings have been explained let’s delve right into the top highest-rated anime series of Spring 2023. Also, the Spring Season starts in April and ends in June (a period of 3 months).

10. KONOSUBA -An Explosion on This Wonderful World!

“KONOSUBA -An Explosion on This Wonderful World!” is the Konosuba franchise’s prequel series centered around Megumin, the wizard of Kazuma’s team.

This series turned out to be pretty good, considering it featured only one main character from the original franchise. The series tells the story of Megumin. It was mostly a slow-paced anime season focusing on Megumin’s early life. Clearly crafted for the dedicated Konosuba fans, its high rating speaks volumes about its appeal!

Synopsis: “KONOSUBA -An Explosion on This Wonderful World!” takes place a long time before the main events of Konosuba, when Megumin becomes a wizard and master of Explosion Magic in Crimson Village.

Every day, Megumin tries to obtain this magic, which is considered useless by most people because it renders its user vulnerable after using it. Together with her friends, sister, and her little pet cat Chumosuke, where will these chains of events lead Megumin to?

9. My Love Story With Yamada-kun at Lv999

“My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999” was an excellent rom-com series aired this Spring. It followed a slow yet excellent pacing that invested its viewers into the main couple’s chemistry.

The pacing seemed to get fast as the episodes went by, which I am not complaining about, but this seemed a little bit rushed as to how the main protagonists fell in love with the female protagonist. Other than that, this was a good rom-com!

Synopsis: “My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999” tells the story of Akane, who just got dumped by her boyfriend because he liked some other girl in a game they played named “Forest of Savior.” After this, she goes to an event of this game where she meets with Yamada.

As soon as this fated meeting happens, Akane’s old boyfriend seems to come there with her new girlfriend. Akane pays Yamada to act like her boyfriend, and things take a good turn, but what Akane is feeling for Yamada is something special!

8. Tonikaku Kawaii 2nd Season

“Tonikaku Kawaii 2nd Season” was the sequel to the wholesome romance series that dominated the internet when it aired. It follows the romantic relationship between two youngsters as they discover the hardships of life together!

This season was better than the previous one in terms of both story and music. The development that the main character went smoothly before the final reveal of her identity. One of the best rom-com of this year!

Synopsis: “Tonikaku Kawaii 2nd Season” follows the story of Nasa, a young genius prodigy who is about to be hit by a truck but is saved by a girl named Tsukasa at the last moment. When he wakes up after the crash, he finds the girl who saved her, to thank her for what she did!

When he finds her, he confesses his “love at first sight” to her, and she says they can go out if they are married. So, they both get married and start the life of two love birds, trying to spend their everyday life happily!

7. Heavenly Delusion

“Heavenly Delusion” was this season’s underdog, as it offered an engaging plot line and interesting characters. It follows two teenagers who venture through the quiet streets of Tokyo in search of heaven, which seems delusional.

The anime series followed a rapid pacing throughout, including their romantic development.

Synopsis: “Heavenly Delusion” follows the story of Maru and Kiruko, who live outside the walls. Inside the walls are humans who shelter from the bizarre beings that invaded Tokyo fifteen years ago.

Maru and Kiruko have been searching for a place called heaven, but what stops them is the cruelties both faced throughout their childhood. Will they be able to find answers to their sufferings, or will they become prey to these bizarre monsters?

6. Hell’s Paradise

“Hell’s Paradise” was the much-awaited series from the animation studio MAPPA which have made a name for themselves while simultaneously working on Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Attack on Titan. And this anime was worth its hype as we got to experience a supernatural world like none other.

This series follows alleged criminals and their guardians left on an island to find the Elixir of Life. The plot attracts the watcher to think about the development more and more, which makes this anime worth watching.

Synopsis: “Hell’s Paradise” follows the story of Gabimaru, a criminal who can never die. A professional executioner named Sagiri tries to kill him, but Gabimaru’s lie is revealed that he is too scared to die because he wants his wife back.

So, Sagiri persuades him to join her and look for the Elixir of Life so that the village leader declares Gabimaru free, and he can then join his wife. But the road is filled with challenging endeavors and bizarre creatures that both must defeat!

5. The Dangers of My Heart

“The Dangers of My Heart” was a nice take on a rom-com involving an airhead girl and a mentally unstable boy. The progression starts from the first episode, making this anime even more intriguing.

The anime follows the usual pacing as we see both main characters slowly and steadily enter their romantic relationship. With its sequel announced, this anime will most definitely satisfy the cravings of romance anime watchers.

Synopsis: “The Dangers of My Heart” follows the story of Ichikawa, a mentally unstable boy who always thinks of killing his beautiful classmate Yamada, an airhead girl. As Ichikawa is fond of reading, he is primarily present in the library, where Yamada comes to eat snacks secretly.

Ichikawa is first annoyed by Yamada because she always ruins the decorum of the library, but slowly, he starts to develop a likeness to her, which gets obvious slowly. Will Ichikawa be able to sort out his emotions and carry on with his school life?

4. Dr. Stone New World

“Dr. Stone New World” is the sequel to the Dr. Stone franchise, a unique anime that teaches us about science. It is set in a world where an unknown incident turns all of humanity into stone. Several decades later, a genius boy Senku gets revived and takes on the mission to revive humanity.

This season, the anime progressed toward modernization and revived some more companions to make humanity alive again.

Synopsis: The big headline of this season is that Senku and his crew are closer to the person who petrified humanity a long time ago. So, if you have been following Dr. Stone from the start and love this series, I hope you will enjoy this season.

“Dr. Stone New World” progressed from the part where Senku and company revived Ryusui to pilot a boat to travel with many people.

So, for this purpose, they design a ship and revive Ryusui’s assistant, Francois, who was with them his whole life. Francois also helped the crew develop bread, which they could use as stored food. But how long will things be as easy as they are?

3. Skip and Loafer

“Skip and Loafer” is the wild card entry to this list as on Anilist, this anime was showered with a lot of love, which made it into the top 3 highest-rated anime series of Spring, and for a good reason.

The series follows a relationship between a countryside bum girl and a city boy. The romance progression processes perfectly, making the anime a good watch for everyone!

Synopsis: “Skip and Loafer” follows an enthusiastic girl named Mitsumi who travels to Tokyo to study in her hometown village. On her first day, she not only gets late but also, she gets lost in Tokyo.

She finds a classmate Sousuke in the same condition as her, and they eventually reach school. But the first impression of Mitsumi is not ideal, and people start talking of Mitsumi and Sousuke as both have opposite personalities and are still together.

2. Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Arc

“Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Arc” was something unforgettable we experienced this year. Many fans cried after watching the last episode of the Demon Slayer season 3 aka Swordsmith Village Arc.

The third season continued the story from the previous season, and it was heavier on the backstory part as some episodes consisted of only backstories. But still, fans seemed to love every bit of it as its the second most highly rated anime season of the Spring Season.

Synopsis: “Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Arc” carried out the story from the previous season as Tanjiro visits the Swordsmith Village in search of Hananezuka, who used to forge his swords.

As soon as Tanjiro reaches the village, he is greeted by the village owner, and soon after that, he meets Mitsuri, the Love Hashira. He also has a not-so-good encounter with Muichiro, the Mist Hashira. But things don’t look so good as demons invade this secluded village!

1. Oshi no Ko

Miles ahead of every other anime airing this season, Oshi no Ko was the best anime of the Spring Season. “Oshi no Ko” was the star of the Spring Season which took on a very different take on the idol genre.

Not only did this season introduce us to quality animation and a spectacular 90 minutes first episode, but it also did something no anime has ever done!

The main characters, Ruby and Aqua, made it onto the cover of SPUR magazine, a famous Japanese fashion magazine. And there is no need to say how perfect the pacing and storyline of the anime are!

Synopsis: “Oshi no Ko” follows the story of a popular idol named Hoshino Ai, who gets pregnant and doesn’t tell anyone who the father is. A fan of hers, will be the doctor who delivers her baby, but when Ai is about to give birth, the doctor is killed by someone whose face is hidden.

When the doctor opens his eyes, he is born as the baby of Ai. He is given the name Aqua alongside his twin Ruby. Ai hides this fact from the media and tries to live an everyday life alongside her little children. But secrets can never be kept hidden, so where will all of this lead?
