The Yuri on Ice movie, “ICE ADOLESCENCE,” has been cancelled. The news came from the official X account (formerly Twitter) of the popular anime series.

The production committee and staff at Studio MAPPA, the animation studio behind the project, cited “various circumstances” as the reason for this difficult decision.
The Yuri on Ice franchise began in 2016 as a manga series that quickly captured the hearts of readers. It tells the story of Yuri Katsuki, a talented figure skater who rediscovers his passion for the sport with the help of his idol-turned-coach, Victor Nikiforov.
The manga’s popularity led to an anime adaptation by Studio MAPPA later that same year. The 12-episode first season was a hit with fans.
Following the success of the anime, Studio MAPPA announced plans for a Yuri on Ice movie titled “ICE ADOLESCENCE” in 2017. However in 2019, the studio revealed that the movie’s release would be postponed to ensure they could create a film that lived up to fans’ expectations.
Now, after years of waiting, the official Yuri on Ice X account has shared the devastating news that the movie’s production has been cancelled. The statement read:
Thank you very much for always supporting “Yuri!!! on ICE”.

No one knows for sure why the movie was cancelled. Some fans think it might be because of the pandemic, creative differences, or other production problems.
