Racing manga series, MF Ghost which is written and drawn by Shuichi Shigeno will be getting an anime adaptation in 2023. No further production details have been revealed yet.
To commemorate the anime announcement, a promotional visual was released with a caption, “The key visual shows a race between protagonist Kanata Katagiri’s car, the TOYOTA 86, and rival cars, the Alpine A110S and the GT-R . The visual also shows a public highway in the background, as a portion of the public highway exists as a closed course for legal racing events in animation”.
A promotional video has been released as well, which uses sound recordings from real cars. It was also revealed that every car sound hear in the anime, will be recorded from real cars such as ‘TOYOTA 86’, the ‘Lamborghini Huracan ‘ and the ‘Ferrari 488GTB’.
Shuichi Shigeno started the MF Ghost manga series in Sept 2017, in Weekly Young magazine. The manga series has over 1 million copies sold. Shuichi has already published another racing manga, Initial D, which serialized in the same magazine from 1995 to 2013. MG Ghost anime adaptation will be released in 2023.
The series is set in the present (in the 2020s), in which self-driving electric cars (Hi Tesla) have replaced older manual internal combustion cars. However, in Japan, there is a big organization known by a name of MFG, founded by Ryosuke Takahashi (from the Initial D series), that does street racing with older internal combustion cars. A new rookie known as Kanata Livingston (19 year old Japanese British boy), who competes under the pseudonym Kanata Katagiri, has appeared on the scene driving a Toyota 86, and beating top-of-the-line European cars such as the Lamborghini Huracan Performante, the Ferrari 488 GTB, the Lotus Exige, the Alfa Romeo 4C, the Lexus LC500 and the Porsche 911 Carrera
