After an extended break from directing anime, Shinichirou Watanabe is finally coming back. Shinichirou Watanabe is the renowned director of the classic-cult anime ‘Cowboy Bebop’ and ‘Samurai Champloo.’
Shinichirou Watanabe is known for his diverse storytelling and character writing. The announcement of the new anime has caused a buzz everywhere as the renowned director is finally making a return.
The anime will be titled ‘Lazarus’ and have one of the most recognized staff in the industry. The anime will be produced by Adult Swim for Toonami. The powerhouse studio, Mappa, will animate the anime.
Information On Lazarus Anime
On Thursday, 20th July 2023, Adult Swin announced that they would be producing an anime in association with studio Mappa and Shinichirou Watanabe.
This is not the first time Shinichirou will be working with Mappa; he once directed an anime for studio Mappa in 2012, known as ‘Kids on The Slope’ and in 2017, ‘Terror in Resonance.’ Both of these anime certainly proved to be major hits in their time.
The anime will focus on action with a Sci-fi setting. For the action sequences, the stuntman director of the John Wick series Chad Stahelski will be in charge.
The music composition of the anime will be produced by the famous saxophonist Kamasi Washington and some other DJs and musicians will be co-composing with him.

The Story of Lazarus
The plot summary of Lazarus is described by Adult Swim as follows:
“The year is 2052 – an era of unprecedented peace and prosperity prevails across the globe. The reason for this: mankind has been freed from sickness and pain. Nobel Prize-winning neuroscientist Dr. Skinner has developed a miracle cure-all drug with no apparent drawbacks called Hapuna. Hapuna soon becomes ubiquitous… and essential. However, soon after Hapuna is officially introduced, Dr. Skinner vanishes.
Three years later, the world has moved on. But Dr. Skinner has returned – this time, as a harbinger of doom. Skinner announces that Hapuna has a short half-life. Everyone who has taken it will die approximately three years later. Death is coming for this sinful world – and coming soon.
As a response to this threat, a special task force of 5 agents is gathered from across the world to save humanity fromSkinner’ss plan. This group is called””Lazarus”” Can they find Skinner and develop a vaccine before time runs out””
As of now, there is no release date announced for the anime. The release date might be revealed soon as the major event of Toonami is taking place on 22nd July 2023.
