Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Expands Its Universe With ‘MADNESS’ Manga Prequel

The Cyberpunk: Edgerunners universe is growing. Following the overwhelming success of the Netflix anime, which brought new life to CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 , Kadokawa has launched the first official manga adaptation, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS.

The series debuted on December 13, 2024, through Kadokawa’s webcomic platform Comic Alive+. This prequel takes a closer look at two of the anime’s most beloved characters, Rebecca and Pilar, exploring their past and expanding the lore of Night City.

Rebecca and Pilar Take the Spotlight

The manga dives into the chaotic lives of Rebecca and her brother Pilar, both of whom gained significant fan followings due to their dynamic personalities and over-the-top antics in Edgerunners .

The story promises to reveal more about their origins, motivations, and their dream to follow in their father’s footsteps as legendary edgerunners. It also introduces a brand-new character, Saffron, whose presence is set to shake up the siblings’ already volatile world.

While Edgerunners focused primarily on David Martinez’s journey, MADNESS shifts the spotlight to Rebecca and Pilar, offering fans a deeper look at their lives and struggles in Night City.

Multilingual Rollout, But No English Yet

The manga is available now on Comic Alive+, though readers should note that the platform primarily caters to Japanese-speaking audiences. Fans looking for the English version will need to wait for the upcoming release from Dark Horse Comics in 2025.

MADNESS is currently available in multiple languages, including Japanese, Polish, Italian, German, French, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese.

The artwork is handled by Asano, known for adapting Studio Trigger’s BNA: Brand New Animal into manga. Together, this team ensures that MADNESS stays true to the spirit of its source material while offering something fresh for longtime fans.
