Dandadan Episode 9, where aliens, cryptids, and supernatural powers collide was peak anime absurdity, cranking up the action and throwing in just enough character drama to keep us invested.
If you’re confused by all the twists and turns, here’s a breakdown of everything that went down.
Episode 9 picks up where Episode 8 left off, with the Serpo aliens showing up in their relentless pursuit of Okarun, aiming to harvest his Turbo Granny powers. To accomplish this, they bring in reinforcements: Nessie and the hired muscle, the Dover Demon.
Nessie, a cryptid monster, doesn’t even need instructions to wreak havoc. Earlier, while roaming the school halls, it inadvertently crossed paths with Momo, who narrowly avoided detection. Nessie instinctively unleashed a high-compression water blast, obliterating a classroom, but luckily missed Momo before departing.
The Fight Against the Dover Demon
When the Serpos finally confront Okarun, Momo, and Aira, the Dover Demon steps up as their main combatant. Initially hired to subdue Okarun, the Demon quickly shifts its attention to Aira, recognizing her as a formidable threat.
Despite its monstrous strength, the Demon struggles against Aira’s agility, unable to land a hit. Aira kicks it into the ceiling, momentarily taking it out of the fight.
However, the Serpos quickly turn the tables. Using their psychokinesis, they suppress Aira’s powers, allowing the Dover Demon to recover and strike back with a powerful punch, sending Aira crashing into the ground.
Okarun tries to intervene, even while restrained by the Serpos’ Awesome Zone, but it’s only when Momo arrives that the tide begins to turn. Her psychic abilities counteract the Awesome Zone, freeing Okarun and giving him and Aira a fighting chance.
The Serpos, realizing that the Dover Demon is losing terribly against Okarun and Aira, take drastic measures. Despite the Dover Demon trying to stop them, they forcibly inject him with a performance-enhancing serum, transforming him into a mantis shrimp-like monster.
This enhanced form drastically boosts his strength and speed, allowing him to launch shockwave punches.
Nessie’s Interruption
During the ongoing battle, Nessie makes its dramatic return. Crashing into the scene, it floods the area with water, effectively interrupting the fight between the Serpos and Okarun’s group.
What’s notable here is that Nessie doesn’t seem particularly loyal to anyone—it attacks the Serpos just as readily as the humans. This forces the Serpos to adapt their plan in real time.
The sudden flood completely changes the battlefield. Okarun, Aira, and Momo find themselves struggling to fight underwater, especially against the now-rejuvenated Dover Demon.
While the Demon brags about the power of its underwater shockwave punches, it soon reveals a critical weakness: it doesn’t have gills and starts to drown. This leaves it frantically surfacing for air between attacks, a comedic but tense moment in the chaos.

The Serpo Dover Demon Nessie Fusion
Recognizing that they’re losing control of the situation, the Serpos make a desperate move: they merge one of their own with both Nessie and the Dover Demon.
This results in the creation of the Serpo Dover Demon Nessie—a grotesque hybrid with enhanced physical abilities, psychic powers, and Nessie’s aquatic dominance.
The fusion proves to be a nightmare for Momo, Okarun, and Aira. Its mantis shrimp arms deliver devastating shockwave punches, while its ability to control water blasts forces the trio to stay on the defensive. Aira attempts a direct assault using her Acrobatic Silky hair, but the fusion counters effortlessly.
At this point, the trio’s teamwork is put to the ultimate test. Momo, using her sharp observation skills, realizes the fusion’s weakness: the mantis shrimp arms can’t withstand intense pressure outside of water. By using her psychokinesis to lower the water pressure, she forces the arms to break, significantly weakening the fusion.
The Final Blow and The Embarrassing Aftermath
The fight culminates in a dramatic sequence where Aira uses her hair to trap the fusion, creating a track for Okarun to launch himself.
Channeling Turbo Granny’s strength, Okarun delivers a decisive attack that destroys the Serpo Dover Demon Nessie, killing Nessie in the process and rendering the Serpo’s plan a complete failure.
As the void space collapses, Momo, Okarun, and Aira find themselves back in the school hallway. At first relieved to be on solid ground, their mood quickly shifts to panic when they realize they’re still in their underwear in front of the whole school. Cue a frantic dash to find cover, closing the episode on a hilariously awkward note.
