Chapter 77 Recap
Before we jump into spoilers for chapter 78 let’s do a quick recap of what went down in the most recent chapter of the series.
Chapter 77, titled, “Bardock, Father of Goku” continues with Monaito’s flashback story. It kicks off with the Cerealians and some Namekians, living peacefully together on planet Cereal. But one night on a full moon, space pods crashed down into the planet and Frieza’s army of Saiyans emerged and transformed into their great ape forms. The Namekans were rounded up and died quickly, with Monaito being the sole survivor, running to shelter in the mountain with the Dragon Balls.
Meanwhile, the Cerealians put up a bit of a fight, destroying their own moon to get rid of the Saiyan’s great ape forms, however, even in their normal forms, the Saiyans made quick work of the remaining survivors. Bardock feels pity for a Cerelian mother and her young child at the last moment and decides to take her to the mountains where he can feel intelligent life.
After bringing the pair to Monaito’s hut Bardock prepares to leave, warning them that Frieza is coming soon. But Bardock senses another powerful group of people. Hiding in the trees they check to see the Heeters plotting away on their plans to sell the planet. Suddenly a young Granolah wakes up and sees Bardock’s tail, in fear he yells out Saiyan. Thus alerting the Heeters, as they approach they see a Saiyan soldier waiting to kill a Namekian and a duo of Cerelians.
Annoyed by how long he is taking Elec kills the mother and tells Bardock to be on with it. Bardock then hits the Heeters with a small ki blast and uses the distraction to escape. Jumping into the present we see Elec and Gas on the ship and Elec asks if he is thinking about that time. Gas tells Elec that he will never suffer such indignity ever again. And Elec tells Gas, yes you never will as we see a Dragon Ball in his hand.
The chapter ends as the Heeters zoom away on their ship to find the second and final Dragon Ball
Chapter 78 Spoilers
Now that we are all caught up, let’s dive right into chapter 78’s spoilers. Warning, however, some raws for the upcoming chapter are already out so there are confirmed spoilers below, you have been warned.
Chapter 78 seems to kick off with the head of the Heeter’s, Elec gives his crew orders after noticing the Saiyans and Granalah stopped fighting. Erec sends Gas, Macki, and Oil away to try and kill the now weakened trio as they stand around and talk with the Namekian, who Erec assumes is Monaito. Erec explains that before the trio engages with the two Saiyans he will make Gas’s wish true, thus giving them a fighting chance.
Gas seems hesitant but Elec reassures him and tells him to go, telling him that he will definitely make his dream come true. Gas then tells him that he doesn’t mind how he is right now, to which Elec responds that this is the only way to ensure they ensure their goal. Before sending him away Elec reminds Gas that the whole plan depends on him, to which Gas responds that he understands. Elec, summoning the wish-granting dragon of planet Cereal, Toronbo.
After this, the chapter cuts to Granaloh reacting to the backstory Monaito told him, alongside Goku and Vegeta.
Granalah grabs the elderly Namekian and begins to yell at him, angered that he just sat by and let him work for his mother’s killers these past couple of years. After Goku swiftly pulls Granolah away the Namekian tells Granolah that it was the only way they could survive and that he should understand. The Cerealian then begins to break down as he sobs about how he was used by those people for decades.
But before he can even gather himself the sky suddenly turns dark. The group immediately recognizes this as a dragon being summoned and starts to look around to find the source. Jumping back to Elec we see him summoning the wish-granting dragon of planet Cereal, Toronbo. Jumping back to Goku and Vegeta they watch as the darkness disappears and someone crashes into a rock nearby them. And from the dust Gas appears in his new form.
After thanking him for his service during all these years Macki sends Gas, dubbed the strongest warrior in the universe, to kill Goku, Vegeta, and Granolah. Gas fires a ki beam at Granolah who barely dodges, instead his ship takes the blow, slicing it in half. Gas then follows up by creating a four-pointed spear and launching it at the Cerealian, with nowhere to dodge Granolah ends up getting pinned against one half of his ship by the spear. As Gas moves in to make the finishing blow he comments that he never liked Granolah, and now they don’t need him.
Goku tries to rush in and save him but Gas creates weighted cubes on Goku’s wrists and ankles, pinning him against the ground. Gas tells Goku that he reminds him of a certain Saiyan he fought, and he wonders if that fighter is still alive. Vegeta reminds Gas that Frieza killed all the Saiyans, leaving only a handful left. Gas then creates an ax and prepares to cut Goku open, telling the two Saiyans, I’ll just finish off the trash Frieza left behind.
Before he can deliver the blow Granolah jumps back in, after being freed from the spear thanks to Monaito. Gas tells Granolah that it’s useless he is now the strongest in the universe but Granolah persists. Gas then creates a spiked mace and begins to attack Granolah with it. As Gas repeatedly strikes Granolah with the mace he somehow holds his ground.
While this goes down Monaito approaches Goku and voices his concern while freeing him. He tells Goku that he should have faced Elec even if it meant his death. He also tells Goku, after freeing him, that he is a useless Namekian, seeing as how he can’t even heal Goku’s strength. After hearing this Goku gets an idea and he tells Vegeta to go eat that senzu bean he had. Vegeta tells Goku that the bean was in his armor, wherever his armor is now. So Goku tells him to go find it so he can transform into his new scary-faced form, while he holds off Gas.
Goku and Gas then begin to fight again, with Goku partially healed up. Going into his SSJ Blue form he destroys Gas’s weapons and the two start blasting away at each other. Meanwhile, Vegeta has found his armor and the senzu bean however instead of eating it himself he goes to where Granolah is knocked out and tells him to eat it. Granolah tells Vegeta to eat it since he is more powerful but Vegeta refuses, telling the Cerealian that this is his fight.
As Granolah and Vegeta talk Gas manages to get a solid hit on Goku, forcing him to return to his normal form. Now with Goku and Vegeta out of the fight, it’s set up perfectly for the two strongest warriors in the universe to go head to head. And for Granolah to finally get his revenge for his mother.
