Spoilers for this week’s Fire Force chapter are out. And these leaks are telling us that chapter 290 is going to be even more explosive than its predecessor.
With the cliffhanger that last week’s chapter left us hanging from I’m sure you want to see what happens next. Before we jump into that let’s do a quick recap of chapter 289, ‘Becoming One.’
Chapter 289 Recap
In the previous chapter, we see an angered Shinra, as Haumea explains salvation to him. Sho tries to calm his brother down, which he succeeds in doing.
From there Shinra and Sho launch a flurry of attacks at Haumea. However, not a single one connects, as Haumea’s grace with the Evangelist protects her. Haumea slowly starts to attack back, all whilst explaining how the cycle of despair and death works to the duo.
She then tells Shinra, that destiny has already been decided by fate. Once he dies the cataclysm will begin, as he is the only one holding back humanities despair. The driving force behind the cataclysm. Shinra then remembers what Haumea did to sister Iris, due to Haumea’s influence. This angers Shinra and he launches a huge flurry of attacks, only for them to all be blocked. Sending Shinra flying back.
Shinra then tells Sho, who is trying desperately to calm his older brother down. I will fight to protect everyone, to which Haumea responds simply, then how will you protect yourself? As she raises her hand and blasts a hole right through his chest.
Chapter 290 Spoilers
Now that we are all caught up, let’s dive right into chapter 290’s spoilers. Warning, however, some raws for the upcoming chapter are already out so there are confirmed spoilers below, you have been warned.
This chapter kicks off right where 280 left us hanging from. After getting blasted through his chest Shinra collapses on the floor and Sho believes him to be dead.
It’s then that we see Shinra grab Sho’s arm and slowly stand up. There’s a fire snake-looking creature that slithers out of the hole in Shinra’s chest, it is revealed that it is healing him. This ignition ability is actually that of the captain of the 6th division, captain Huang.
We then cut back to Earth for a moment as we see Hibana, captain of the 5th division, and the vice-captain of the 6th Asako Hague. They are both sitting in front of captain Huang as she heals Shinra. They soon see that though she is healing our hero, his Adolla burst fire is spreading to her, slowly killing her. Hibana and Asak can be seen crying as captain Huang completely burns away.
Meanwhile, a newly healed Shinra and Sho reunite back in Adolla. Shinra then speaks to Haumea again, though it is unsure what he says it is most likely something about how he didn’t die as fate said. In the next panel, Shinra tries another attack, this one again not connecting, but the wind from his attack moved Haumea’s hair. Proof that he is changing his fate and bypassing the Evangelist’s grace.
Going back to Earth once again, we see the rest of the 8th Division, taking care of civilians. The group is all together taking care of the people in the area when Licht notices something weird. He notices too late as captain Obi’s doppelganger walks up behind him and slits the original’s throat open. In front of all of his subordinates.
For some reason, Shinra is able to see this happen, or perhaps he feels it. Shinra snaps after this supposed death as he is enveloped in killing intent. Adopting his devilish smile. Since captain Obi is described as humanities guiding light his death would send the planet to its cataclysm even faster. Especially if the savior, Shinra is seen in this murderous light.

Currently, the release date for chapter 290 is unknown, we will try to update you as soon as we know. However, seeing as how the raws for this chapter are already out. We can expect to see the next chapter sometime this week, most likely during this upcoming weekend.
