After reliving nostalgia, Himmel embraces death, which makes Frieren regret why she didn’t get to know him better. Twenty years after Himmel’s death, Frieren visits Heiter, where she meets Fern.

Episode 2 was titled “It Didn’t Have To Be Magic.” The episode starts with Frieren teaching Fern how to be a mage at the request of Heiter, the priest of her party.

As soon as he is about to embrace death, he requests Frieren to take Fern as her apprentice.

After training her to be a strong mage, she takes Fern with her upon the request of her dying party member.
