The official Twitter account of Fullmetal Alchemist announced that the franchise will be getting two new live action movies as part of 20th anniversary celebration. The two movies will be a direct sequel to the first live action Fullmetal Alchemist movie which was released in 2017.
The first film is titled Hagane no Renkinjutsushi: Kanketsu-hen – Fukushuusha Scar (Fullmetal Alchemist: The Final Chapter – The Avenger Scar), which will be released on May 20, 2022. The film follows Edward’s struggle with the character Scar. A key visual has been released for the film:
The second film, Hagane no Renkinjutsushi: Kanketsu-hen – Saigo no Rensei (Fullmetal Alchemist: The Final Chapter – The Last Transmutation), will be released on June 24 in Japanese cinemas, and shows the final battle of the story.
A new trailer for the first film has been released which features narration from the original voice actress of Edward Elric in the anime. The films star Ryousuke Yamada as Edward Elric, Atomu Mizuishi as Alphonse Elric (voice and motion capture), Tsubasa Honda as Winry Rockbell, and Dean Fujioka as Roy Mustang.
Fullmetal Alchemist series is written and illustrated by Arakawa, who started the manga serialization in July 2001, and ended the series in June 2010. The manga series has gotten two anime adaptations. The first anime adaptation in 2003, followed by the second anime adaptation in 2009. The anime series is considered one of the highest rated series worldwide.
