The cat is officially out of the bag!
That’s right, after an excruciatingly long wait and tons of fakeouts, as of today’s official release of JJK chapter 221, Gojo is finally free from his Prison Realm cell. And to no one’s surprise, he has already begun wreaking his one-of-a-kind Satoru Gojo trouble!
Warning! Major spoiler for the entirety of the
Jujutsu Kaisen manga ahead!
Now Gojo has missed a lot since his sealing back in chapter 91. Many sorcerers are dead or at least presumed to be, including his former teacher and even one of his students; meanwhile, his other student, Itadori Yuji, has been named an enemy and cleared for execution. And that’s not even touching on the most recent chapters!
For Gojo’s sake and some forgetful readers like myself, let’s briefly recap the events that led to the most powerful Jujutsu sorcerer, Satoru Gojo was set free.
Recap
Post-Shibuya arc, it had seemed that all hope was lost, lives were lost, Itadori lost control of Sukuna, the higher-ups were all corrupt and worst of all, the Jujutsu world had just lost its most powerful asset, Satoru Gojo.
Furthermore, Noritoshi Kamo announced his Culling Game, dragging in all Jujutsu sorcerers across the country, even reincarnating dead sorcerers! However, there was still some hope. After meeting with Tengen in his tomb, the remaining sorcerers created a plan.
Using the back of the prison realm Yuji and the gang could theoretically free Gojo, but in order to do that, they’d need to participate in the Culling Game and find the reincarnated sorcerer, Angel. Using her verbal cursed technique, Angel can extinguish any other cursed techniques.
With this information in mind, the sorcerers gathered more allies and, in groups, entered one ward of the Culling Games in the search for Angel, amongst many other tasks.
After a lot of hard work and tribulations, Angel was finally found, and everything seemed to be going well, and naturally, that’s when everything went to hell.
Using his binding vow with Itadori, Sukuna took fool control for a minute and did…quite a lot. In one swift move, he infused cursed energy into a finger, ripped it off and forced Megumi to eat it, leaving Itadori’s “cage” body and forcing Megumi to become his vessel.
Things aren’t looking to sound, but after some brief preparation, it gets a lot better! It’s time for an unboxing!
Gojo Unleashed (Gojo is out)!
As Twitter user @howlonginthebox kept track for us, Gojo Satoru was locked up in the Prison Realm for exactly 1189 days. However, in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe, it’s only been a surprising nineteen days! Seeing as time doesn’t pass in the Prison Realm, the amount of time Gojo felt pass could be literally anything, but one thing is for sure: he is tired of being locked up and ready for a fight!
Immediately upon his release, Gojo manoeuvres past the death trap Noritoshi set up for him and faces the man who stole his best friend’s body.
Telling the enemy to choose his words carefully as they will be his last, Gojo dashes into battle, but before he can even get any hits on the man who sealed him, a second fighter joins the mix!
Sukuna, now in complete control, attacks with Megumi’s body, at first catching Satoru off guard, but he quickly catches on. A man of his word Sukuna reminds Gojo of his promise to kill him, but before these two can start trading blows, Noritoshi swiftly steps in.
Reminding Sukuna of their deal, the King of Curses backs off. Though he finds it tedious, Satoru does as well, instead setting a date for their fight, December 24th.
As the chapter ends, Gojo is asked if he truly believes he can defeat Sukuna. And without any hesitation, he gives the same answer as the one all the way back from the first few chapters, “I will win.”
Ladies and gentlemen, Satoru Gojo are back, and he hasn’t changed much! And in just 35 in-universe days, he will face off against the King of Curses, Sukuna Ryomen!
Until then, however, Gojo has to regroup with his allies and get up to speed with what’s happened in the 19 eventful days he’s been locked up! Because….there’s quite a lot to go over, know our brief recap was extremely brief.
