Gege Akutami has made one thing clear in his series, that in Jujutsu Kaisen anyone and I mean anyone can die at any given time. He’s shown this multiple times with beloved characters dropping like flies. What’s worse, some deaths are confirmed while some are left a mystery.
But putting all that aside, for now, let’s focus on chapter 185 of Jujutsu Kaisen. Where a certain someone nearly dies! Well more like a part of them dies? It’s pretty confusing but we’ll break it all down for you down below! And of course, before we jump into it, major spoiler warning for the latest chapter of JJK. The chapter is out officially, so I’d advise you to go and read that first before spoiling yourself. You can find the chapter officially in our “Where To Read” section at the end of the page.
Now with all that out of the way, let’s get into it!
What Just Happened?!
Without wasting any time, let’s answer the golden question. Who died? Or well… nearly died? To put it short, it’s Panda. But wait, before going any further let’s clarify something, he’s still alive. Like I said it’s pretty confusing, just try to stick with me.
Going back to chapter 184 we learn a bit as to what exactly Panda is up to. He alongside Hakari is searching for Hana Kurusu, the ancient jujutsu sorcerer also known as Angel. In short, she has the ability to free Gojo. Believing this “Angel” to be in the second Tokyo Colony, Panda and Hakari enter, only to be separated upon entry. Now alone Panda continues his search for Angel, this is when he comes across Hajime Kashimo, another ancient sorcerer who is also in search of someone, Sukuna.
Now, these are the Culling Games mind you so once these two spot each other, the fighting ensues. Panda goes all out against his new opponent but can’t seem to connect, even after switching to his older brother, Gorilla he has no chance of winning. Finally, the Jujutsu High sorcerer switches to his most powerful sibling who we are seeing for the first time and she seems to be a triceratops… Alas, even she isn’t a match for this strange ancient sorcerer and Panda is defeated.
Having defeated his opponent Kashimo then asks where he can find Sukuna. Fearing for Itadori our lovable Panda says he doesn’t know anyone of that name. After getting called out on his lie Panda jokes around saying he might have an uncle by that name. Leaving him with no choice Kashimo tortures Panda and completely destroys his stuffing body. Only leaving behind Panda’s decapitated head.
Is Panda Really Dead
Any normal human would have died from Kashimo’s attacks, however, Panda isn’t human. Panda is a Panda! As we know Panda, alongside his two siblings are cursed corpses, the only way they can die is if their cores are destroyed. With that said as of chapter 185, we know that Panda is alive. Panda’s core is in his head, which seems to be the only intact part of his body.
For now, we know for sure that Panda is alive. As for his other siblings, it’s up in the air whether or not they survived. Panda is able to move his all cores around but we have no clue if he was able to pull it off before Kashimo’s attack.
Good News: Panda has survived another day.
Bad News: His two siblings may not have.
