Sumire Uesaka is the voice actress who is known for her role of Nagatoro in “Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro” anime series. She is also known to be a huge admirer of Russian culture and history. Sumire also studied Russian language for 4 years. Due to her being fluent in Russian language, she was selected to play as Aarya (the protagonist of the light novel “The Neighboring Aarya-san who Sometimes Acts Affectionate and Murmuring in Russian“) for promotional videos.

Earlier, some of Sumire fans expressed concern that due to the ongoing political crisis, she will be targeted by internet trolls because of her love for Russian culture. And, as expected, she received criticism on social media platforms as the incident was shared on the Japanese blogging website, Yaraon. Here are some of the comments criticizing Sumire:

It should be pointed out that Sumire has not given her remarks on the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Despite of her admiring the Russian culture and history, she might not approve the actions committed by the government of Russia.
