Previously announced Netflix’s original horror anime series, Exception, has revealed the first trailer for the anime. Exception anime is scheduled to start streaming on Netflix on Oct 13.
The series story is set in a distant future where Humanity has been expelled from Earth and forced to relocate to another galaxy. A scouting team is dispatched to find a planet suitable for terraforming. The crew is made using a biological 3D printer, but due to a system breakdown, one of the crew members, Lewis, emerges in a deformed shape. As Lewis turns on his fellow crew members Nina, Mack, Patty, and Oscar, a countdown to the mission’s conclusion begins in the ship’s terrifying darkness.
As seen in the trailer, the CGI of the anime is bad, but the story looks interesting, especially for horror genre lovers. Being a space horror genre fan, I will be watching this series just for the story.
Here is how anime fans have reacted to the trailer: “I’m sorry, I know it takes artists and animators a long time to make this stuff but @NetflixAnime come on. This looks horrendous. It looks like an extremely sloppy slideshow at best”., “I get the feeling that this would have looked fantastic with traditional animation. The CGI makes it look like a dated Playstation game.“, and “imagine studying for years so you can be hired as an animator only to be told that you have to work on this.”
Other anime fans said: “I was sold at Yoshitaka Amano and Ryuichi Sakamoto. The story and characters look interesting and I so love a sci-fi horror with a coat of psychological.“, and “Is there something wrong with me where i think this looks fine“.
The series involves some big names in the staff. Tatsunoko Production (Bakken Record) and 5 Inc are animating the space horror anime directed by Yuuzou Satou (Gatchaman Crowds assistant director). The original story is written by novelist and live-action director Otsuichi (Adachi Hirotaka) (Goth, Kizu). The characters are being designed by Yoshitaka Amano (Vampire Hunter D, Gibiate). Ryuichi Sakamoto will produce music.
