“Mushoku Tensei” is a light novel series by Rifujin na Magonote that has not only received a manga adaptation but also a highly popular anime adaptation.
Interestingly, “Re: Monster” played a direct role in the creation of “Mushoku Tensei.” For those unfamiliar, “Re: Monster” is another light novel series with an ongoing anime adaptation on Crunchyroll.
With the recent surge in new fans following the anime adaptation, enthusiasts have been delving deeper into the series.
A tweet from the author of “Mushoku Tensei” from 2020 has resurfaced online, revealing that “Re: Monster” is one of the reasons behind the existence of “Mushoku Tensei.”
“It all began when I discovered a work called ‘Re: Monster’ in a bookstore, and upon reading it, I found it truly captivating. Subsequently, I came across the website Narou, read various works, and thought, ‘If I publish a novel on this site, it won’t be dismissed,'” wrote Rifujin on X (formerly Twitter).
Since the anime adaptation of “Mushoku Tensei” premiered in January 2021, it has become a fan-favorite isekai series. Conversely, the “Re: Monster” anime, which debuted in April 2024, has largely flown under the radar. Despite this, the series boasts a high rating of 4.5/5 from 30k votes on Crunchyroll.
Crunchyroll describes the “Re: Monster” series as follows:
“After facing an untimely demise, Tomokui Kanata is reborn as a humble goblin with an insatiable appetite. Utilizing his newfound ability to grow stronger through feeding, his weak status rapidly evolves, propelling him to the position of goblin leader. Armed with a blend of his past memories, new physique, and voracious hunger, he embarks on a journey in this fantastical new world!”
