Hiru Kuma’s comedy-fantasy light novel series, “Reborn as a vending machine, now I wonder the dungeon” is getting an anime adaptation. A promotional video has been released, but the release date, staff and production details are yet to be announced.
“Reborn as a vending machine, now I wonder the dungeon” tells the story of a protagonist (name unknown) who loved vending machines more than anything. Due to an unfortunate incident, he gets crushed under a vending machine and dies.
The main character is then reborn as the one thing he loved the most in his previous life, a vending machine. As a vending machine, he cannot walk, and only talks in stock Japanese vending machine phrases, such as “Welcome” or “Apologies”. He discovers that he can dispense any item that he brought from a vending machine in his previous life.
Stuck in the dungeon, he encounters a girl named Lammis, who is ridiculously strong because of a skill named Blessing of the Might. The two of them became friends after he gives some food to hungry Lammis. She starts carrying the vending machine on her back, calling him “Boxxo”. The story is about their adventures as they further explore the dungeon and meet new people.
The anime series is based on the light novel of the same name, written by Hiru Kuma and illustrated by Itsuwa Katou. They began publishing the light novels in August 2016 through the Kadokawa publishing house, while a manga adaptation by Kunieda has been published through the Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh magazine since August 2021.
