rurouni kenshin

Rurouni Kenshin manga was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 1994 to 1999. The same publisher is publishing a sequel manga named Rurouni Kenshin: The Hokkaido Arc, which currently has 7 volumes. Watsuki’s wife, Kaworu Kurosaki, writes it while he draws it. Following Watsuki’s arrest, the sequel was placed on hold from December 2017 until June 2018.

It was made into a TV animation in 1996 by studios Gallop and Deen, a movie version was released in 1997, and three OVAs were released in 1999. Rurouni Kenshin also received a live-action film series (five films).

Himura Kenshin is a vagabond with a dark past and sunny disposition. Not a ronin but a rurouni, he was never a samurai, but an assassin of utmost skill in the Meiji restoration, who in the turning point of the war simply walked away. His travels lead him to Tokyo in the 11th year of the Meiji era, where he befriends a female Kendo master, a former thief, a brawler and a doctor all with their own secrets. Together they fight off the enemies surfacing from the dark past that Kenshin cannot escape.
