After two successful seasons, Solo Leveling fans worldwide are eagerly awaiting news about Season 3. During recent media events, producer Sota Furuhashi of Aniplex discussed a potential timeline, suggesting that he personally would prefer waiting until the next Olympic Games in 2028 to begin production. He quickly added, though, that the final decision rests with anime studio A-1 Pictures.

At a recent media Q&A session, Furuhashi expressed a sentiment many fans share, stating, “I think more than anyone, I’m anxiously awaiting a Season 3.” He then highlighted the significant workload involved, noting that animators produced an impressive 220,000 frames of animation between the first two seasons alone.
“Of course, I’d love to give the animators a little breathing room,” Furuhashi said, adding, “If it were up to me, I’d say, let’s wait until the next Olympics to see what’s going to happen with Season 3.” Referring to the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles, he humorously clarified that the ultimate decision is up to Atsushi Kaneko and the team at A-1 Pictures.
Kaneko, animation producer at A-1 Pictures, playfully acknowledged the responsibility, stating, “No, no, no. So, it’s on me now then.” He expressed enthusiasm for continuing the story but pointed out the significant challenges involved.
Kaneko explained that producing an episode typically takes between 10 to 12 months, emphasizing the lengthy production timeline. He also mentioned global fan enthusiasm as a key factor influencing future decisions, comparing fan energy to the “spirit bomb” from Dragon Ball—a collective effort from fans worldwide needed to push the project forward.
Crunchyroll CEO Rahul Purini supported the point about timing, underscoring A-1 Pictures’ busy schedule and the need to carefully schedule Solo Leveling into an already packed industry lineup. He said, “The series creators want to work on a lot of shows. Anime is popular, so there’s a lot of demand, and we have to find the right time to get started on the next season.”
Details from a recent “For Your Consideration” Q&A video revealed extensive collaboration involved in bringing Solo Leveling to the screen, especially highlighting the partnership with Crunchyroll for global reach. Furuhashi noted, “My overseas business trips increased about fivefold,” demonstrating the anime’s significant international interest.
Ko praised his animation team, expressing trust in their abilities and highlighting the challenging yet rewarding effort of producing dual Japanese dubs, one using Korean names to respect the global fanbase, and another with Japanese adaptations for local viewers. “I’ve never heard of recording twice for one anime before,” Ko admitted, emphasizing the studio’s exceptional dedication to fan satisfaction worldwide.
Voice actors Michelle Rojas (Cha Hae-In) and Aleks Le (Sung Jin-Woo) shared personal connections to their characters. Rojas described the psychological impact of recording intense fight scenes, and Le shared his personal journey reflecting his character’s growth.
Furuhashi’s mention of a 2028 timeline isn’t an official announcement but highlights the thoughtful approach behind Solo Leveling’s future. Fans must rely on continued global enthusiasm, patiently awaiting official updates as the decision-making process continues at A-1 Pictures.
