Spider-Man No Way Home had an impressive opening weekend at the Japanese Box office, where the movie sold 584,000 tickets and earned 905 million yen on Saturday and Sunday. In 4 days of its screening, the movie sold 1,116,000 tickets and earned a profit of 1,692 million yen.
Jujutsu Kaisen film 0 dropped to the 2nd spot after being at the top of Japan Box office, 2 weeks in a row. The film sold 449,000 tickets for the Saturday and Sunday, and made a profit of 644 million yen. However the total revenue of the Jujutsu Kaisen film (7.7 billion yen) is still more than Spiderman No Way Home (1,692 million yen). The film 0 is already the second highest grossing Japanese film of 2021, beating Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet ( 7.65 billion yen ). If the pace continues like this, the movie could hit the 10 billion yen mark by the end of the month.
Gege Akutami started the Jujutsu Kaisen manga series in March 2018, in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. Studio Mappa adapted the manga into a TV anime of 24 episodes. Jujutsu Kaisen movie 0 (also animated by Mappa) that aired in Japan on Dec 24, is based on a prequel of Jujutsu Kaisen manga series.
According to an article by Yahoo News Japan, Jujutsu Kaisen will make debut in Hong Kong, South Korea, and North America in February 2023. However, there is no official confirmation of Jujutsu Kaisen worldwide release date yet.
Spiderman No Way Home is the third and final installment of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spiderman “Home” series. Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Benedict Cumberbatch are the main cast. The director is Jon Watts, who has worked on the previous two films.
