Studio Mappa’s 8 Upcoming Anime Projects

Studio Mappa had a great year 2020 with animating popular shows like Jujutsu Kaisen, Dorohedoro, The God of High School and Attack on Titan Final Season. If you are a fan of Studio Mappa, I have good news for you. Mappa is animating a lot of new shows including sequels for Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan. Here are the projects Studio Mappa is working on:

Jujutsu Kaisen Movie

The first season of “Jujutsu Kaisen” just came to an end, but don’t worry. Toho Animation unveiled a teaser the anime’s first movie, “Jujutsu Kaisen 0 the Movie”. Jujutsu Kaisen Film is scheduled to be released in Winter 2022.

Jujutsu Kaisen was suppose to be a short series back in 2017, however Weekly Shonen Jump picked up the sequel of the author Gege Akutami’s series “Jujutsu Kaisen” .But the movie “Jujutsu Kaisen 0” will take an unexpected route, as it would be adapting the author’s special short story long before the main Jujutsu Kaisen series.

Chainsaw Man

Chainsaw Man is probably the most aniticipated anime from Mappa Studio. Chainsaw man sold over 9.3 million copies of its manga this march. As of now no release date has been confirmed from the Studio but it is anticipated to premiere in 2022.

Recently, we are seeing a surge in dark theme anime adaptions, if you want a human-devil hybrid that can turn into a titular Chainsaw Man then this anime is for you. It sounds edgy and ridiculous but once you are over with the wackiness of the initial premises, I assure you that it has great character development but expect so much gore from the series. “Chainsaw Man” manga was written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto, according to Weekly Shonen Jump; “Chainsaw Man” was serialized since December 2018.

Yuri on Ice: Ice Adolescence

The movie “Yuri on ice: Ice Adolescence” release date has not been officially confirmed, thou it was originally planned to be released in 2019 but has been delayed to a later date. It’s expected to be out on late-2021, however the official teaser has already been released last November 26,2020 by Avex Pictures.

Zombieland Saga Season 2

Zombieland Saga Season 2 has officially been confirmed to be coming out this April 8! Titled “Zombieland Saga revenge” and once again produced by Muneshiha Sekai in Studio MAPPA. It’s not surprising that MAPPA quickly began making plans for Zombieland Saga s2, the Blue-Ray sales in Japan for the first season’s Volume 1 sold four times more than My Hero Academia season 3.

Zombieland Sage Revenge trailer also confirmed that the well-known voice actors also return to their roles. MAPPA was also busy working on The God of Highschool s2, which was directed by Seong Hu Park, one of the storyboard writers and director of Zombieland Saga s1. Last March 10 a series of short video starring Franchouchou’s voice actor will show us the emotions that can be experienced during the second season. The second season will premiere on Amazon Prime Video in Japan. Crunchyroll is also streaming the sequel!

Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2

Attack on Titan Last Season part two isn’t over yet! I know it sounds edgy to call it “last season” if there will be a part two. The last episode of the part one’s “Attack on Titan Last Season” was released on March 27. It doesn’t give much of an idea to the next part of the season. Also Attack on Titan fans should expect the series with the same storyline that the manga concluded with. According to MAPPA “Attack on Titan Last Season” part two is set to premiere on winter 2022. The studio hasn’t announced how many episodes will be in the part two.

Attack on Titan has a lot of chapters and stories to cover so I really appreciated that they made a part two rather than making a movie since the screen time allows “Attack on Titan” to give the story’s ending it deserves.

Yasuke

Netflix is teaming up with Studio Mappa to bring us another awesome anime called Yasuke. The story is inspired from real life samurai who is pulled back to conflict when he takes a little girl with mysterious powers under his wing. Yasuke will have six episodes in total and is set to release exclusively on Netflix on April 29.

Idaten Deities in the Peaceful Generation

“Idaten Deities in the Peaceful Generation” after its successful manga it will get an anime adaption. The release date premiere will be on July 2021. Cool fact! Coolkyoushinja’s manga have all been anime adapted since his first publish, “I can’t understand what my husband is saying” on 2011.

I can’t say much about the series. But here’s a Synopsis; It has been 800 years since the battle gods “Idaten”, who boast overwhelming speed and strength, contained the “demons” who led the world to ruin after a fierce battle. “That battle” is now just an old tale in a distant myth. While the “peaceful generation of the gods,” who have never fought since they were born, are out of peace, someone has revived the demons from a long sleep! Bring armed forces, wisdom, politics, conspiracy, whatever you can use! No-rule & no-limit three-way battle royale is about to begin!!!
