Urusei Yatsura Is Getting A New Anime In 2022 After 40 Years

Rumiko Takahashi’s action-romance-comedy manga series is getting a new anime adaptation in 2022. The first anime adaptation aired in 1981 with a total of 195 episodes.

The anime series will have a total of 4 seasons. It has been announced that David Production will be the production studio. A new promotional video has been released as well.

A daily newspaper in Japan, Sankei Shimbun confirmed the adaptation in the new year’s greeting advertisement. A new promotional video is expected to be released soon.

Cast

The new voice cast has been announced for the both main characters.

  • Sumire Uesaka (who also voices Nagatoro-san) will play Rum, replacing Fumi Hirano.
  • Hiroshi Kamiya (who also voices Levi Ackerman) will play Ataru Moroboshi, replacing Toshio Furukawa .

Rumiko Takashi started the manga series in Sept 1978, and ended the publication in Feb 1987. Viz Media started new translation of the manga series in Spring 2019. The manga was adapted into anime series, which aired in October 1981, having a total of 195 episodes. The new anime is scheduled to premiere in 2022 on Fuji Television.
