The series follows the story of Suzuki Satoru, a teenage boy who is fed up with life and spends most of his time playing the DMMO-RPG game “YGGDRASIL”. He has an in-game character named Momonga, a large skeleton “Ainz Ooal Gown”, who is a pretty overpowered wizard and is the leader of his dark guild.

One day while playing the game, Satoru gets trapped in the game world, unable to log out. Furthermore, the NPCs come to life. Ainz continues to play the role of a villain in this anime as he fights against the human race, while also searching for his friends in this new world.

Overlord to this day exists as one of the most popular isekai (where the main protagonist is transported into another world) anime series of all time! It came out during the starting time of the breakthrough of this genre and to this day, the series has received four seasons.

Here are 10 anime like Overlord, which you will definitely love to watch. (And yes! Most of them will include Isekai anime).

1. The Saga of Tanya The Evil

The Saga of Tanya The Evil

Following the same anti-hero, isekai and an overpowered MC theme, The Saga of Tanya The Evil anime series is a perfect anime to watch after Overlord. The anime tells the story of a normal salaryman who gets reincarnated as a little girl into another world. He is reincarnated in an era of World War I, but the only difference is that there is magic in this world.

The protagonist gets reincarnated as a girl named Tanya, who has a very ruthless and cold personality and is nicknamed “The Devil of the Rhine”. Tanya wants to create an Empire that will be considered the strongest in the history of this world so she starts ascending the ranks of the military.

The general isekai setting of this “The Saga of Tanya The Evil” is pretty appealing as you just keep watching and watching! The unique factor of this anime is that a man is reincarnated into a girl. If you like hardcore and politics-based series, this series is definitely for you.

3. How not to Summon a Demon Lord

How not to Summon a Demon Lord

As we all know, with great power, comes a great Harem—I mean responsibility. “How not to Summon a Demon Lord” follows the story of Sakamoto Takuma, a teenage boy, who spends most of his time playing the game “Cross Reverie” and has become a master of it at this point.

One day, he was suddenly reincarnated into the world of this game by two females “Shera” and “Rem”, who wanted to enslave Takuma after summoning him.

Being the strongest player in the game results in the reversal of their Enslavement spell, and now, both these girls are slaves to our protagonist. So, starts the life of our protagonist as he tries to break their Enslavement spell and travel the new world that he was transported into.

This anime series has the same Isekai and Harem setting as Overlord. Another similarity is that both protagonists were the masters of the game they got reincarnated into. The only difference in their settings is that Diablo travels the world throughout the anime whereas Ainz only stays in his place, and people visit him to challenge him. And yes! This anime also has a pretty lewd Ecchi setting, so, if you like that, good for you.

  • Number of Episodes: 22 episodes.
  • Personal Rating: 7.50.

4. The Misfit of Demon King Academy

The Misfit of Demon King Academy

The MC being overpowered is similar to Overlord, maybe a bit more than Overlord as the protagonist kills a person with only his heartbeat. The Harem setting is also followed, and the protagonist also forms a group of his own in the Academy. There is not much comedy in this anime, like Overlord, so, if that puts you off, you can skip it. But if you are here just for the Overpowered main character anime series, this anime is most definitely for you!

  • Personal Rating: 8.10.

5. The Irregular at Magic High School

The Irregular at Magic High School

It’s not every day when you see an incest (siblings in romance) anime with an overpowered protagonist. The Irregular at Magic High School takes place in a Sci-fi world where Tatsuya, a teenage boy, gets admitted to The First High School with his sister Miyuki. Although Miyuki gets admitted as a Bloom (great magical abilities), Tatsuya gets admitted as a Weed (weak magical abilities).

Tatsuya faces many problems with this Weed status, but he has an extraordinary knowledge of technology, which makes Blooms stand low below him.

All Tatsuya wants is to protect his sister from any trouble and for her to enjoy an everyday life. So, starts the life of our overpowered protagonist as he faces issues every day about his Weed status and regarding his secret job as he tries to make sure her sister is having fun.

Although this anime series is not an Isekai, its appeal of it is similar to Overlord. The Harem genre is also pretty appealing as different students get attracted to our Weed-status protagonist. And yes! The incest dosage is also pretty healthy in every episode, which you will enjoy.

So, starts the life of our protagonist as he tries to explore his powers and takes on an adventure in this new world!

The difference between Death March and Overlord is that Satou likes to remain low and not tell others he is overpowered. Whereas Ainz develops his dynasty and lets people know he is powerful. Other than that, both have protagonists that are scared of causing commotion, and both have a team of fighters that mostly consists of female characters. This is a pretty “healing” isekai as it consists of cute girls doing cute things!

  • Number of Episodes: 12 episodes.
  • Personal Rating: 8.10.

7. Cautious Hero: The Hero is Overpowered But Overly Cautious

Cautious Hero: The Hero is Overpowered But Overly Cautious

Being overpowered is one thing, but if you are over-cautious too, does that still make you overpowered? This anime series follows the story of Ristarte, a Goddess, who summons Seiya, a Japanese man, to the heavens to fight evil. Seiya is pretty powerful and wise, but despite all this, his preparations for a fight are pretty serious, and he considers every possible scenario before going into battle.

Ristarte always tells him not to be so scared, but he remains the same, despite having power at the same level as Gods. We later also learn that Seiya and Ristarte are related in their previous lives as teammates.

The protagonist of Cautious Hero might be not be as OP as Ainz but it is still a good watch. It also has a pretty good comedy genre, more funny than Overlord which you will enjoy. The Harem setting is not followed as cleanly as Overlord, but it is still pretty good, and the slice-of-life addition to this anime is also an appealing thing to this anime as it makes it better!

  • Number of Episodes: 12 episodes.
  • Personal rating: 8.00.

8. The King’s Avatar

anime like overlord

The King’s Avatar is a Chinese anime series (Donghua) that follows the story of Ye Xiu, a teenage boy who is considered a God-level player of the game “Glory“. One day, when Glory launches its new server, Ye Xiu decides to give this game a try again and now starts from zero as a player named “Lord Grim”.

But as he has remained a professional at this game, he nails this game and raises his stats at a rapid pace, getting the attention of many players and guilds. So, starts the life of our protagonist who tries to dive into nostalgia and keep playing this game again and again.

This anime is the most unique out of the whole list as it does not have any supernatural element. Although it does follow the same overpowered theme as Overlord, Ye Xiu does not get transported into the world of the game. This anime is pretty enjoyable and unique

So, the series follows the story of our main protagonist as he tries to live a normal life with his classmates and tries to solve the mysteries present in this city regarding demons.

This anime has the same isekai and overpowered theme as Overlord. The protagonist is a hero instead of an anti-hero (like Overlord), but it is still a pretty good watch. The Romance genre is pretty good as it progresses slowly and steadily. If you like anime with such a setting, you will most definitely enjoy this one.

  • Number of Episodes: 12 episodes
  • Personal Rating: 8.30.

10. No Game No Life

No Game No Life

One of the anime series that made the Isekai genre popular, No Game No Life follows the story of “Shiro” and “Sora”, who are step-siblings. They have an online reputation as the unbeatable duo. One day, they receive an email about playing a normal chess game.

When the game finishes and they win, the Game God “Tet” transports them into a world where games decide everything. Feeling that this is the world where both of them belong, Shiro and Sora start from zero to beat God one day in a game to rule over this world.

This anime series has the most appealing theme. Although it does not involve playing RPGs (like Overlord), it involves playing board games. The overpowered setting is followed to a point as they fight different strong races and dominate through their impressive gaming. And unlike the protagonist of Overlord, these two are not scared of causing havoc. So, if you like a plot-heavy isekai, this is a must-watch for you!
