Avatar: The Last Airbender Live-Action First Look Revealed During Netflix Tudum

Avatar: The Last Airbender, just like One Piece, is getting its very own live-action adaptation on Netflix!

Ever since we first heard the news about it in 2018, fans have been on the edge of their seats, anxiously waiting for more information. Finally, at the 2023 Tudum event, Netflix dropped the big news – the series is set to arrive on our screens in 2024.

We didn’t get an exact release date, but Netflix did give us a tantalizing sneak peek. They showed off the elemental sigils, reminding us of Aang’s epic journey to master all four elements.

Netflix also whetted our appetites with a first look at the main cast in character. So, who’s taking up the mantle of our favorite benders?

We’ve got Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio playing Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, and Dallas Liu bringing the heat as Zuko.

And the cast doesn’t stop there! The likes of Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai, Amber Midthunder as Princess Yue, and the legendary George Takei as Koh, the Face Stealer, are joining the ranks.

Showrunner Albert Kim gave us a bit of insight into what we can expect. He’s promising surprises for new and old fans alike, and a strong commitment to authenticity – to the story, the characters, and the cultural influences.

While it’s sticking to the original storyline, this version is definitely putting its own spin on things. The episodes are going to be chunkier, running around an hour each, and it sounds like they might mix up the plot a bit. But hey, we’re here for it!

The Avatar world isn’t stopping at live-action, either. Paramount and Nickelodeon are working on three animated feature films, with the first one slated for a 2025 release.
