Classroom of the Elite is one of the top-selling light novels, and in the past, the series managed to outsell other light novels, that had on-going anime series at the time. After getting season 2 announcement (5 years after the release of season 1), fans were expecting a high-quality animation from season 2 just like season 1, but that has not been the case.
The quality of the animation has been declining with each new episode. A clip from Classroom of the Elite season 2 episode 6 (13:30 time stamp) went viral for animation failure. A character that should be in the back of the scene appears at the front making it look like one runner is stepping over the other’s head.
Although, this is a simple layer issue which was not even noticed by most fans, the inconsistent quality of the animation has been pointed out by many fans on social media. This “layer issue” also raises questions about the production issues. Was Studio Lerche given enough time to animate season 2 by the production committee? And if they had more than enough time, these kinds of mistakes should not be happening in an anime of a franchise like Classroom of the Elite.
Here are some other ‘strange frames’ collected by social media users:
A Twitter user explains that despite having the worst animation quality, the boost in sales of the source material is so much that in the end, a badly animated anime becomes a profitable investment. Twitter user @Namaryu wrote:
Kadokawa (production committee) revived the series and announced both Season 2 and Season 3 and stated that it will finish the first year of the light novels, which is good for the fans, but judging how it has been handled one can only assume that they are trying to get this done asap to milk Year 2 more
With the demand so high there is way too many anime being produced and too few people to actually make them, yes that is not new statement and I did not discover anything for this but that’s the reality and these companies are exploiting it to their fullest.
The worst thing is that this plan of Kadokawa seems to bear fruits because the boost of source material which is so insane that such technical disaster like Tanmoshi was capable of becoming a profitable investment despite dying on every corner
Classroom of the Elite anime series is based on the light novel of the same name, written by Shōgo Kinugasa and illustrated by Shunsaku Tomose. Classroom of the Elite season 3 is scheduled to premiere in 2023.
Crunchyroll describes the Classroom of the Elite anime as follows:
Kiyotaka Ayanokoji has just enrolled at Tokyo Koudo Ikusei Senior High School, where it’s said that 100% of students go on to college or find employment. But he ends up in Class 1-D, which is full of all the school’s problem children. What’s more, every month, the school awards students points with a cash value of 100,000 yen, and the classes employ a laissez-faire policy in which talking, sleeping, and even sabotage are permitted during class. One month later, Ayanokoji, Horikita, and the students of Class D learn the truth of the system in place within their school..
