On the surface, Koudo Ikusei Senior High School is a utopia. The students enjoy an unprecedented amount of freedom, and it is ranked highly in Japan.
However, the reality is less than ideal. Four classes, A through D, are ranked in order of merit, and only the top classes receive favourable treatment.
Kiyotaka Ayanakoji is a student enrolled in Class D, where the worst students are placed. On the surface, he appears as a bland person.
Although he acts like a dumb and boring student, he is raised to be a perfect human with hardcore training and little to no emotions.
After meeting Suzune Horikita and Kikyō Kushida, two other students in his class, Kiyotaka’s situation begins to change. From there, he starts his journey to class A. But will he be able to reach the top?
Episode 9 Recap:
At the beginning of the episode, we saw Kushida making a deal with Ryuen regarding the upcoming exams. In her pursuit of getting Horikita and Ayanakoji expelled from the school, she decides to team up with class C.
Each class had a representative allowed to submit the question papers. For class D, that representative was Horikita, but Kushida tried to deceive Chabashira sensei by telling her that Horikita had sent her to submit the papers.
However, Horikita already knew about her plans and decided to submit the papers early. She told her not to accept other question papers from other students in Class D. While writing the paper, Kushida realized that she had been outmanoeuvred.
After the exams, Kushida confronts Ryuen about the matter, but she realizes he has already betrayed her. When confronted by Horikita, she admits that she won’t attempt to get her expelled but will make sure to get Kiyotaka expelled from the academy.
Towards the end, we saw Ryuen texting Ayanakoji with a photo of Kei indicating his next target. Unfazed by his move, Kiyotaka decides to take his challenge head-on and let him know who is the strongest.
