Though the Fire Force manga is in its final arc, it looks like the author, Atsushi Ōkubo still has a lot in store for us. With chapter 288 titled, “What Is Salvation?” releasing today and a small glimpse at the raws for chapter 289, there’s a lot for us to get into.
What Happened In Chapter 288?
Let start with what happened in the latest chapter. Chapter 288 starts off right where 287 left off with our two heroes, Shinra and Sho talking to “the young saint” or as we know her, Haumea in Adolla.
288 kicks off with Haumea explaining to Sho and Shinra the relation between salvation and despair, telling the duo that the stronger salvation is the stronger despair gets. Haumea further explains that the only way out of this cycle, the way to true salvation is death, a mindset that our hero immediately rejects.
Haumea ignoring Shinra continues on to say that even those who held life in a high regard and hoped for salvation chose death. She then shows Shinra the body of Sister Iris, telling us that Iris learned of this cycle and accepted her death as salvation.
Of course, seeing the body of his comrade and her killer sitting in front of him admitting murder angers Shinra. He goes in for an attack against Sho’s warning but is only swatted away by Haumea’s godly protection. After calming his brother down Sho uses his time stop ability and the two brothers rush in for an attack, going for a killing blow. Again their attack does nothing, as the chapter ends with Haumea’s protective god staring down at the pair.
Chapter 289 Spoilers
Some raws for the upcoming chapter are already out so there are confirmed spoilers below, you have been warned.
Chapter 289 looks like it again kicks off right from the end of the previous chapter. With Shinra and Sho standing up and preparing for their next attack.
Most of the chapter looks to be Shinra and Sho attempting to attack Haumea and her protective god over and over again as they are flicked away. Whilst Haumea continues on about her ideals and the cycle of salvation and despair.
The brothers keep up their attacks attempt after attempt but nothing lands on Haumea. Then Haumea stops talking and blasts a wave of fire at the pair blowing them both flying back.
The chapter ends with a tearful Haumea, tears streaming down her face as she extends her arm out, and blows a hole right through Shinra’s chest. Shinra stands there looking shocked and confused as he looks up at Haumea, whilst Sho watches from right beside him. The chapter seems to end there on that humongous cliffhanger.

Release Date
Currently, the release date for chapter 289 is unknown, we will try to update you as soon as we know. However, since Fire Force has a weekly release, the chapter should be out sometime next week.
