Godzilla’s new pink form in ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ draws inspiration from Dragon Ball’s Goku, but not in the way you might expect.
The highly anticipated movie “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” has taken the box office by storm, with its monstrous battles. Among the film’s most striking features is Godzilla’s new pink form, which the iconic monster achieves after defeating the Titan Tiamat and absorbing its radiation.
Jared Krichevsky, the lead creature designer for “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to shed light on the creative process behind Godzilla’s pink form.
Surprisingly, he revealed that contrary to popular belief, the inspiration for the transformation did not come from Goku’s Rose form in the Dragon Ball series. Instead, Krichevsky drew inspiration from another iconic Goku technique: the Kaio-ken.
In response to a fan’s inquiry on X, Krichevsky clarified that he had not encountered Goku Rose until years after conceptualizing Godzilla’s pink form. He explained that the transformation was intended to be a temporary power boost in the movie, occurring after Godzilla absorbed the DNA of Tiamat.
This news has got fans talking, and it’s easy to see why. It just goes to show how much of an impact Dragon Ball has had on pop culture over the years, even influencing the people behind today’s biggest movies.
For those unfamiliar with the Kaio-ken technique, it is a power-up skill in the Dragon Ball series invented by King Kai, the ruler of the North Galaxy.
When Goku uses the Kaio-ken, his body is enveloped in a pink aura, and his strength, speed, and senses are greatly enhanced but for a short period. However, this technique comes with a significant drawback: it puts immense strain on the user’s body and can be fatal if used recklessly.

The fact that Godzilla’s pink form was inspired by the Kaio-ken and not Goku Rose really shows how much the people behind “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” know and love the Dragon Ball series. It’s cool to see how they can take something iconic from one franchise and put their own spin on it to make it fit into a completely different world.
As fans keep packing into theaters to check out the awesome spectacle of “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” knowing that there’s a connection between Godzilla’s pink form and Goku’s Kaio-ken just makes it that much more exciting for Dragon Ball fans.
