Haikyuu’s ‘Battle of the Garbage Dump’ Film Gets Release Dates for the Philippines and Southeast Asia

Haikyuu fans in the Philippines and other Southeast Asian countries can finally mark their calendars for the highly anticipated release of Haikyuu: Battle of the Garbage Dump.

The first of two films that will adapt the manga’s final arc is set to hit theaters in the region this May, as announced by Medialink. While exact dates are yet to be confirmed, the film will be released in the Philippines, India, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

The news comes after Medialink previously revealed that Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau would also receive the film. Haikyuu: Battle of the Garbage Dump will open in Hong Kong and Macau on April 11, followed by Taiwan on April 12.

The film has already made a huge splash in Japan, where it premiered on February 16, 2024, and has since become the highest-grossing movie of the year in its opening weekend.

In just three days, the film earned an impressive 2,230,465,540 yen (roughly US$14.83 million) in Japan, setting a new record for the biggest opening weekend of any film in the country this year.

The movie has gone on to sell 6.1 million tickets, which equates to 5% of Japan’s total population. This remarkable success bodes well for the film’s performance in other Asian markets.

Crunchyroll has also announced that Haikyuu: Battle of the Garbage Dump will be released in over 30 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada. The film is scheduled to open on May 30 in various territories, with the US, UK, Canada, Finland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Spain, and Sweden following on May 31.

Fans can expect the same high-quality animation from Production I.G. and the return of the original voice cast for the upcoming film. This continuity in production and performance will ensure that the final chapter of the Haikyuu story lives up to the standards set by the anime series.

The Haikyuu manga, written and illustrated by Haruichi Furudate, was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine from February 2012 to July 2020, spanning an impressive 45 volumes. The anime adaptation by Production I.G. first aired in April 2014 and quickly garnered a dedicated fanbase around the world.
