Chapter 166 Recap
Before we jump into spoilers for chapter 167 let’s do a quick recap of what went down in the most recent chapter of the series.
In the previous chapter, we saw Higuruma prepared to bestow Yuji Itadori with the death penalty that Judgeman had given him. But Higuruma paused for a second as he thought back to how the evidence Judgeman had given him had proven the young sorcerer innocent, instead the demon, Sukuna who had inhabited Itadori’s body as the real offender. Taking advantage of this brief pause Itadori sent his opponent flying with a punch.
Higuruma, who got blown into the theatre seats, sits up and informs Itadori that he is indeed innocent. Reciting a law from the Japanese Penal Code that states, “if a person lacks cognitive ability or capacity of control they are considered as someone who couldn’t think for themselves properly at the time,” therefore proving Itadori innocent.
Higuruma then stands up and recalls a time he was weak just like Yuji. After the duo, now relaxed and calm, take a seat together Higuruma announces that he will give the 100 points to our hero because he is weak like he himself was. Higuruma then starts to talk about his own backstory, as we end there, giving us a small preview of what to expect next chapter.
Chapter 167 Spoilers
Now that we are all caught up, let’s dive right into chapter 233. Warning, however, some raws for the upcoming chapter are already out so there are confirmed spoilers below, you have been warned.
This chapter picks up a little bit after Higuruma sat Itadori down in the last chapter. Jumping straight to the point Higuruma creates a new rule using 100 of his 102 points, just as Itadori asked. The new rule states that “players are allowed to voluntarily transfer points between themselves.”
Itadori thanks the ex-lawyer, but Higuruma says not to, after all, he killed two people for those points. Higuruma also gives Itadori one of his points and keeps one for himself, so the two of them would not be subject to CT removal for another 19 days. Higuruma then prepares to leave, but Itadori asks him to stay and help him out. However, Higuruma has been thinking of what to do and he has realized that if he stayed by Itadori’s side he would just grow to hate himself more. With that, he leaves Itadori telling him I’ll see you later.
Jumping over to Megumi’s side of things we see Reggie, the person who is supposed to be amusing him, yelling “you pass, you pass” after seeing Megumi’s shikigami technique. Reggie, who was planning on attacking Megumi, acknowledges that he is very strong, and instead of fighting, they should be allies, encouraging Megumi to put away the shikigami.
After asking Megumi to be comrades again, the sorcerer puts away his cursed techniques and listens to Reggie. Then he asks Megumi what he knows about the Culling Games so far. Megumi ended up telling him only some of what Tengen had explained, keeping some stuff to himself, playing it safe. Whilst Megumi talks there is a bright flash from outside and Megumi sees an eyeball that quickly disappears.
The chapter ends with the main antagonist, Kenjaku arriving in China as he takes a seat amongst a circle of other people. The final panel shows him taking a seat and replying, thanks for inviting me, in Chinese.
