Jujutsu Kaisen has officially been recognized as the most popular anime series by Guinness World Records, surpassing long-running heavyweights like Attack on Titan and One Piece.
The prestigious title was awarded based on global demand data from analytics firm Parrot Analytics. According to Parrot Analytics, Jujutsu Kaisen boasts a staggering global demand rating 71.2 times higher than the average TV show.
The firm determines these ratings by gathering extensive daily data on viewer engagement, including streaming numbers, downloads, social media buzz, and online research interest. Notably, actions requiring more effort from fans, such as watching or downloading episodes, carry greater weight in the demand calculation.
The Guinness World Record announcement comes as a huge achievement for Jujutsu Kaisen, considering its relatively recent debut compared to the long-standing success of competitors like Attack on Titan and One Piece.
Attack on Titan had held the most popular anime crown since 2020, while One Piece experienced a massive resurgence in 2023 thanks to the buzz surrounding Netflix’s live-action adaptation.
However, Jujutsu Kaisen’s explosive popularity, particularly with the airing of its highly anticipated Shibuya Incident arc in July 2023, propelled it to the top spot.
The series, based on Gege Akutami’s hit manga, has captured the hearts of anime fans worldwide, especially among younger generations.
Guinness World Records reports that an impressive 73% of Jujutsu Kaisen’s viewership consists of Gen Z (ages 13-22), significantly higher than Attack on Titan’s 64.4% and One Piece’s 56.7%.
