Jujutsu Kaisen recently introduced an old friend of the King of Curses, who will be a critical part of the Shibuya Incident arc.
After Sukuna finished off Jogo, a mysterious person appeared before him. This was Uraume, who is a thousand-year-old jujutsu sorcerer acquainted with Sukuna.
Uraume’s role in the “Jujutsu Kaisen” series carries significant weight, considering the fact that Sukuna, who typically shows little regard for sorcerers or spirits, has remembered them for thousands of years.
Who is Uraume?
Uraume actually made their first appearance during the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen. Uraume appeared in the last episodes of Season 1, as Juzo Kumiya revealed Uraume’s identity while being interrogated.
Uraume wears a monk robe and has white hair with a plum-colored spot on it. Uraume doesn’t have much personality, but Uraume’s loyalty towards Sukuna is unmatched.
Uraume’s Gender
Urauma’s gender has been “unknown” for the longest time until “they” was used for Uraume in the official fanbook of Jujutsu Kaisen.
“They” is used for people who are non-binary (not “male” or “female” specifically), so is Uraume a non-binary character?
Uraume can be compared to characters like “Najime” from “Komi Can’t Communicate,” whose gender is also unknown. But Najime has no problem being called “male” or “female.” So this might be the case.
Uraume might have thrown away their gender identity while being loyal to Sukuna for more than a thousand years. You can think of this as being an ‘asset’ instead of a ‘person.’
But it’s good to wait for an official confirmation from the author instead of making assumptions. For now, Uraume is referred to as “they.”
Uraume’s Cursed Energy and Techniques
Uraume’s cursed energy is “ice curse manipulation.” They can manipulate ice according to their own will. Their cursed techniques are also a derivation of his ice-cursed manipulation.
They are among the few characters in Jujutsu Kaisen who can use the “Reverse Cursed Technique” alongside their cursed manipulation techniques.

Uraume’s Involvement in the Future (SPOILERS!)
Although Uraume doesn’t play the central antagonist role, they are still crucial to Sukuna’s revival later in the series.
After their brief appearance in episode 16, Uraume will now appear at the climax of Shibuya Arc to save Pseudo-Geto from jujutsu sorcerers. They have allied with Pseudo-Geto until Sukuna is completely revived.
In the later Culling Game Arc, they are responsible for preparing the “bath” for Sukuna, letting him take over Megumi’s body completely (as Sukuna transfers hosts from Itadori to Megumi in this arc).
In the Shinjuku Showdown Arc, Uraume helps Sukuna prepare for his battle with Gojo Satoru, who has been released from Prism Realm.
