The KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! franchise is set to expand once again with an upcoming OVA tied to the third season of the anime. Here is all the confirmed information about this release and the context surrounding the series.
Release Dates and Episode Details
The OVA will consist of two episodes. The theatrical debut is scheduled for March 14, 2025, in Japan. A Blu-ray and DVD release will follow on April 25, 2025, which is expected to coincide with the episodes’ availability on streaming platforms, though no official announcement has been made on that front.
The two episodes are titled:
- Redstream Explosion!: Megumin’s explosion magic is called upon to counter a typhoon approaching Axel. The situation brings together familiar faces, including Yunyun and Wiz, in a group effort to save the town.
- Nisemono Chuui!: This episode centers on a winter day in Axel where Kazuma encounters an adventurer who seeks him out. In exchange for a meal, Kazuma shares tales of his exploits, resulting in unexpected reactions.
The official X account of the series also shared a new visual with the caption “Key visual unveiled. New OVA “God’s blessing on this wonderful world! 3 -BONUS STAGE-“
A double feature of episodes not aired on TV!”
KonoSuba, originally a light novel series by Natsume Akatsuki with illustrations by Kurone Mishima, was published from October 2013 to May 2020, totaling 17 volumes. The anime adaptation began in 2016, with the first two seasons produced by Studio Deen. A feature film, KonoSuba: Legend of Crimson, premiered in 2019 and further boosted the series’ popularity.
The third season, produced by Studio Drive, aired from April 10 to June 19, 2024, covering new chapters from the light novel series. This brought the total episode count for the main series to 31 episodes, along with the feature-length movie.
Production Team for Season 3 and the OVA
The OVA retains much of the creative staff from the third season:
- Chief Director: Takaomi Kanasaki (Princess Connect! Re:Dive, Tokyo Ravens)
- Director: Yujiro Abe (Super Cub, Vlad Love)
- Script and Supervision: Makoto Uezu (Yuuki Yuuna is a Hero, Kengan Ashura)
- Character Design: Kouichi Kikuta (Seitokai Yakuindomo, BLUE REFLECTION RAY)
Studio Drive took over production duties from Studio Deen starting with the third season, with no noticeable shifts in quality.
What’s Next for KonoSuba?
The light novel’s main story is already complete, leaving potential future adaptations to focus on the remaining content from the source material. Spin-offs like KonoSuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World! also offer additional avenues for exploration, though no announcements for further adaptations have been made beyond the OVA.
For now, the OVA will provide fans with two new episodes that continue the series’ comedic approach while potentially bridging the gap to future developments. With its confirmed release schedule, KonoSuba remains an active and relevant part of the anime landscape.
