One Piece is getting a new film titled “One Piece: Red”. According to the official domain of the film, One Piece: Red will hit the theaters in Japan on August 6th, 2022. The film will be directed by Taniguchi Gorou, and produced by Eiichiro Oda. Keep in mind that the official announcement is expected on Nov 21st, after the premiere of episode 1000.
According to scars present in the logo of the film, the movie will likely focus on either Rocks, Kidd, or Shanks. However, recently Oda has said that Shanks will make a move soon, so the movie is most likely about Shanks and his backstory. The movie will most likely be non-canon like the previous One Piece films. (We will update here if the movie announced to be canon)
One Piece creator, Eiichiro Oda also shared a message to commemorate this announcement. Here is the rough translation:
“We are making a movie!! RED!! I am tired of drawing The Legend of Grandpa! Let me draw what I want to! The current character we are working on is like that! And that was the beginning. Did you know that director Taniguchi Gorou, who is directing this new film, was actually the first person in the world to make Luffy into an anime? Now, we have got some good news that will really surprise you. The new movie RED!! Please look forward to it as you imagine what it will be like”.
2021 is really a year for One Piece fans. Netflix is making a big budget live action adaptation for One Piece, where Oda is heavily involved. One Piece episode 1000 is released on November 21st. Episode 1000 will also get theatre screening in France.
