What Is Golden Week?

Although you were just given a brief overview of what Golden Week is, some who have never heard of this holiday may be wanting to learn more. So let me save you a google search!

As mentioned Golden Week is a week-long holiday event containing multiple Japanese holidays. These holidays, going in chronological order, are as followed, Shōwa Day,  Constitution Day, Greenery Day, and Children’s Day.

Showa Day (which was first celebrated in 2007) is in honour of Hirohito, the Emperor of the Showa era of Japan. Fun fact, The day that Showa Day lands, is the day of the Emperor’s birth. Next is Constitution day, which is pretty straightforward. It honours the Japanese constitution that was ratified following the end of World War II. The next celebration of the week, Greenery Day is once again related to Emperor Hirohito, this time promoting the Emperor’s famous appreciation of nature. And lately to finish the week off is Children’s day also known as Boy’s Festival. On this day Japanese parents across the nation pray for the health and success of their children, most commonly their sons, by decorating their homes with carp-shaped streamers and samurai dolls.

And now you know! Golden Week is a week of national holidays and during this time most Japanese companies close down and give time off to their employees. Of course, one of the main businesses that are closed during this time is the manga industry. Thus the break this week.

What Magazines Are Affected?

As far as we know currently, this break affects all weekly release magazines. So that means popular series under Weekly Shonen Jump or Shounen Magazine will not be featuring any new chapters this week.

This also means that there will be no spoilers for My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen, Black Clover, Blue Lock, or Tokyo Revengers this week! Meaning that we’ll see you all…next week!
