The Demon Empress Kishirika was introduced in episode 12 of Mushoku Tensei. Her adorable reactions were really loved by fans. As it turns out, the animators from Mushoku Tensei competed over who gets to animate Kishirika. This story was shared on Twitter by “Beast”, who is one of the animators working on the series.
Ok, so here is the funny story about Mushoku Tensei. I’ve told some colleagues that I witnessed a real “Waifu War” at one episode I worked at, and it was indeed this one. The “War” being the animators fighting over the new cute girl of the series.
It happened that almost all the animators in the episode (including me) wanted to animate the Kishirika sequence, because it was simply hilarious and the character is so cool. So we began flexing and bargaining with PA-san so we could get the sequence…
Things like: PA-san, I promise I can make this sequence faster, so please give it to me!
It seems we put PA-san into trouble, because he didn’t know whom to give the sequence and we were all putting pressure. I think it even delayed the production like a week.
In the end, instead of the Kishirika sequence, I got the part when Rudeus talks with the Hitogami, and even though it was very interesting, I was like:
“I wanted to draw the cute girl, but ended up with the naked fat Otaku instead…”
I was very happy when I saw the episode, though, because Sato-sensei made the sequence look as funny as I imagined. It was the right choice from PA-san.
So that was it, “Waifu Wars” are real for some episodes. We might be professionals, but the webinars is stronger. Btw, this episode had the most beautiful storyboards I’ve ever seen. I store them as a little treasure. Hope you guys get to see them someday!
