My Dress-up Darling Anime Sequel Announced (Season 2?)

During a special event held in Tokyo for the anime adaptation of the manga series titled My Dress-Up Darling (Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru), written and drawn by Shinichi Fukuda, the production of a sequel for the series was officially confirmed. The release date for the sequel will be announced soon. A promotional video has been released for the upcoming sequel.

The question is, does the sequel of My Dress-up Darling the same as season 2? The format of this new project has not yet been revealed; thus, it is unknown whether this sequel will be a second season or a film. Currently there is not enough manga material for the production committee to animate season 2.

My Dress-up Darling manga has 9 manga volumes published. The first five volumes were adapted into season 1, and if the anime studio is planning season 2, they will need manga material for at least 5 more volumes. Seeing the growing trend of anime films in the past couple of years, a My Dress-up Darling feature film is not out of the question.

Shinichi Fukuda, the manga’s author, posted a special illustration depicting Marin Kitagawa and Wakana Gojo to commemorate the announcement. Shinchi also shared a message on their personal Twitter account. “I’m really grateful for that (announcement). Thank you very much. I’m really looking forward to it. I’m truly glad that I’ve been the manga artist.

CloverWorks studio picked up the manga for an anime adaptation. The first season aired in Japan during the Winter-2022 season (January-March) and consisted of twelve episodes. Shinichi Fukuda has been releasing the manga in Square Enix’s Young Gangan magazine since January 2018. My Dress up Darling season 2 release date is yet to be announced, but fans could expect the release date to be around Oct 2023.

Crunchyroll describes the anime series as follows:

Wakana Gojo is a high school boy who wants to become a kashirashi–a master craftsman who makes traditional Japanese Hina dolls. Though he’s gung-ho about the craft, he knows nothing about the latest trends, and has a hard time fitting in with his class. The popular kids–especially one girl, Marin Kitagawa–seem like they live in a completely different world. That all changes one day, when she shares an unexpected secret with him, and their completely different worlds collide
