Netflix has unveiled a new trailer for its highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s globally renowned manga and anime series, One Piece.
Unlike the first teaser trailer, which introduced us to One Piece’s live-action setting, the new 3 minutes trailer finally shows what kind of series fans can expect to watch.
The trailer and images not only offer a faithful recreation of classic scenes from the anime’s East Blue Saga but also provide an up-close look at the villains that the Straw Hat Pirates will encounter on their journey.
Fans can see a close-up look at many of the baddies that the Straw Hats will encounter on their travels through the East Blue, including the sea beast Luffy encounters in the beginning of his journey to become the King of Pirates, the terrifying Alvida (Ilia Isorelys Paulino), Buggy the Clown (Jeff Ward), who can’t quite keep it together, and Dracule Mihawk (Steven Ward), the first rival for Zoro.
Of course, there is also the first look of Fishman Arlong (McKinley Belcher III), ruler of Arlong Park and leader of the Fishman pirates, who proves to be a formidable challenge for the Straw Hats.
Eiichiro Oda Approves
Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, has expressed his approval of the live-action adaptation, indicating that the series will stay true to the original.
In a special message, Oda praised the new live-action production, particularly highlighting the care and dedication the entire crew put into it, calling the cast and crew “One Piece superfans.”
He also emphasized the efforts put into the world-building, costumes, and dialogue, suggesting that the series will present things in a way that can only be done in live action.
While there’s no guarantee that One Piece will break what some consider to be Netflix’s “anime adaptation curse,” the latest trailer and images suggest that Netflix has learned from past experiences and is committed to creating a live-action version of One Piece that will be beloved by both fans and newcomers alike.
The live-action One Piece series is set to premiere on Netflix on August 31. With what seems to be looking like a faithful adaptation of the East Blue Saga, the series promises to bring the world of One Piece to life in a way never seen before.
