What a time to be a One Piece fan! The series is not only at its peak in the manga and getting a high-budget One Piece live-action series, but the most popular medium for the franchise, the One Piece anime series, will be revealing one of its most awaited moments.
Toei Animation has released an official teaser trailer for the upcoming One Piece Episode 1071, which will showcase the much-anticipated Gear 5 transformation of the series’ protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy.
The unveiling of the Gear 5 transformation is part of the ongoing One Piece Day ’23 celebrations, which run until July 22.
Gear 5 is the peak power of Luffy. In this state, Luffy’s power is only bound by his imagination. In the previous episode of One Piece, we saw Luffy getting knocked out by Kaido.
It was made clear to the fans that Luffy would need either a power-up or a rescue from someone to save him.

One Piece episode 1071, titled “Luffy’s Peak – Attained! Gear Fifth,” is scheduled to air on August 6, 2023, and will depict the events of One Piece manga chapter 1044. The episode is directed by Tatsuya Nagamine, with Midori Matsuda and Keita Saito serving as animation directors.
The episode featuring Gear 5 will air across Japanese broadcasting networks at 9:30 a.m. JST on August 6. For international fans, Crunchyroll is simulcasting the popular One Piece anime series with English subtitles.
