It’s been 25 long and fun-filled years since Pokemon Red and Blue was released on the Game Boy and changed the world forever. Less than a year later, Nintendo followed their influential game up with an anime that is still running today!
The world quickly came to love both these mediums of the Pokemon franchise and the characters that came with them. On the games side, there was the playable and silent Red, who players controlled until gaining a championship. Over on the anime side was Ash, a character with the same goal as Red but much more energetic.
Since both characters, creation fans have been begging to see them together, and after a lifetime of waiting, it’s happening!

The long-awaited face-off is all thanks to the free-to-play mobile game Pokemon Masters EX. If you haven’t heard of this game before, the best way to describe it would be as an alternate reality fanfiction.
Set on the artificial island of Pasio, the game is full of familiar trainers from the mainstream games that you can face off against! Aside from fighting with these trainers and their signature pokemon, you can also befriend trainers and have them join your team!
From the original companions, Brock and Misty, to even old enemies like Team Aqua and Magma, this game has it all, including the young pokemon master from Pallet Town, Red. And now joining him is another trainer from Pallet Town, his anime counterpart, Ash Ketchum, alongside his trusty Pikachu!
Ash will be added to the game for Pokemon Master EX’s third anniversary, and to celebrate his arrival, the Pokemon team released this cinematic trailer! You can view the trailer in its full glory just below.
Seeing as how Pokemon Masters EX doesn’t take place in the main game or anime universe, the Ash and Red we know and love have yet to meet, but this is definitely a start! The question is, will Red ever appear in the Pokemon anime, perhaps as Ash’s dad?! It’s a question every fan has pondered and one that won’t be answered just yet…but maybe one day.
That’s all from us for today but tell us, what are your thoughts on the reveal? And, of course, will this addition get you to download Pokemon Masters EX? As always, we here at Anime Senpai love to hear from our readers, so be sure to drop a comment below!
