Shonen Jump Just Cancelled Another Manga Series!

It’s a brand new day, and with that comes yet another series getting axed by Shonen Jump! The last time we discussed a series cancellation was when the magazine giant cancelled the serialization of Yuji Kaku’s “Ayashimon.” Which was a series that had a growing fanbase and lots of promise.

This time around, Jump is ending a series that fans have actively been asking to be cancelled, and that series would be, Protect Me, Shugomaru! The series follows the story of Sanagi Ojo and her 10-year-old bodyguard Shugomaru Tekko as he tries to protect Sanagi from assassination attempts, but he often puts her and others around him in more danger.

Protect Me, Shugomaru by Daiki Ihara, began its serialization around the same time as Shonen Jump’s two other brand new series, Ayashimon and Doron Doron. However, unlike the other two, this series did not land well. In fact, instead of gaining followers, it seems that Protect Me, Shugomaru was quick to gain a major dislike online.

It’s a shame that this series wasn’t able to stick well with audiences seeing as how it had serious potential to be a long-running comedy series for the magazine. Instead, like many before it, it fell short. With Shonen Jump on the hunt for its next big series it makes you wonder, how many series will we see come and go before one manages to stick. Hopefully, we won’t have to go through this serialization and cancellation cycle again with Jump’s latest two series that are coming soon!

The last chapter of Protect Me, Shugomaru is expected to release this coming weekend, releasing alongside Jump’s newest series, Alien’s Area! Be sure to support both series officially and look forward to Daiki Ihara’s next work following this series. You can read these series and more officially, and for free on both Viz Media and Manga Plus!
