Stranger Things Anime Series Is Reportedly In Development

The highly popular Netflix series, Stranger Things is reportedly getting an anime spinoff series. According to What’s on Netflix, the anime series is the first spinoff series that was announced in July 2022. It will be a short anime series with a total runtime of 6 hours, titled “Stranger Things Tokyo”.

The title of the series suggests that it will be an anime adaptation, produced by a Japanese studio, rather than an “animated adaptation.” At this time, there is no information available about the specific studio responsible for producing the series. However, a brief summary of the plot has been released, stating that the story follows a pair of twin brothers who are avid video game players and live on the outskirts of Tokyo in the 1980s. They become involved in an adventure after encountering the Upside Down.

The final season of Stranger Things (Season 5) is set to release in 2024, exclusively on Netflix. Previously, Duffer Brothers announced that they will be doing a spinoff of some sort, after or before Stranger Things season 5 wraps up. Not only an anime spinoff but the director and producer of Stranger Things, Shawn Levy has plans to build a Stranger Things Cinematic Universe.

Not much is known about the plot of the anime spinoff, but we do know it will be “1000% different” from the original, as Matt Duffer revealed during a podcast. He further said, “it’s a story that connects to the Stranger Things world, but it really is more about how we’re telling that story.”
